Wilfred’s Minutes – Round 8

Carnage is the word of the week – just injury upon injury upon injury! No fun for the clubs, nor for us poor SuperCoaches too!

Thanks as always go to the legend that is Matt Hawker and his website, www.nrlsupercoachstats.com. I borrow the screenshots from his Minutes section, which for this season you can find under the ‘2020’ tab (just under ‘Stats Table’ which is obviously the most used tab for myself). Make sure you consider donating to help him with the running costs, etc. as we SuperCoaches hammer his servers every week.

N.B. there were 5 minutes of extra time

No major injuries during this game for the Storm, but there were some adjustments to the rotation due to a head knock for Kaufusi (72), who passed his HIA.

We saw Cam Smith (85) playing halfback and Brandon Smith (75) playing hooker, but then Jacks (31) came on later which saw CSmith move back to hooker, and BSmith both having a rest and then playing in the middle.

This probably impacted the minutes for JBrom (41), Welch (26) and NAS (38), with Finucane (65) seeing the bulk of the minutes and it also seems like Tino (41) is being trusted with more game time on the back of good form.

KBrom (85) played a mixture of both left edge and some time in the middle, with Eisenhuth (36) getting some extra minutes while Kaufusi was off but also taking some time on the edge too.

N.B. there were 5 minutes of extra time

Already missing several key players, the interest was definitely on the minutes that Nat Butcher (53) would play as well as the other middle forwards. Butcher’s minutes (assuming 48 without extra time) are in an awkward spot and he also had a huge defensive clanger which allowed Hughes to stroll over untouched.

The Roosters also had to deal with concussion concerns for Collins (36), JWH (38) and Cordner (84), with Collins failing his HIA and both of JWH and Cordner not having enough time to pass the test before the end of the game.

Taukeiaho (65) played big minutes while Faamausili (21), Tupouniua (34) and Aubo (11) also chipped in (also Tupouniua filled in for the last two minutes of the game when Tupou (83) went off with a bad ankle injury).

Friend and Crichton played the full 85 minutes.

The Raiders copped another hit to their middle forward stocks, with Soliola (19) breaking his jaw and Guler (37) suffering an ankle injury.

Whitehead (68) also spent time off the field passing a HIA, which saw Curtis Scott (18) take over on the left edge before finishing the game just in the middle.

Papalii (55) and Sutton (56) took up the bulk of the work in the middle, with support from Tapine (34) and Havili (33).

Hodgson and Young both played the full 80 minutes.

No injuries for the Dragons but the rotations were a bit weird after what appeared to be a settled rotation last week.

Hunt (58) still came on at his usual time, prompting the reshuffle of McInnes as usual (80), but Lawrie (47) saw an increase of minutes at the expense of Vaughan (44), Kerr (28) and even Ford (12). Merrin (30) and KSims (21) both saw similar minutes to usual.

This week, both edges of Frizell and Fuimaono played the full 80 minutes.

I don’t believe there were any injuries in this game and it was just how comfortable the scoreline was which saw Jennings (64) get a very early shower. Lane (75) also got a few minutes off the end of the game.

RCG (57), Paulo (46) and Niukore (46) again had big minutes in the middle, with some support from Stone (29), Gower (23) and Kaufusi (32), while Takairangi (20) played some middle and then left centre after Jennings left the field.

Mahoney (80) and Matterson (80) did their usual business.

No injuries either for the Cowboys, with O’Neill (61) just being simply interchanged for Hampton (19) in the second half despite Marsters (80) and Feldt (80) being the ones given the bath on the left side.

With no McLean, McGuire (73) saw increased minutes while Lolo (64) just kept doing what he usually does.

Robson played 80 minutes, with 10 of those being in the middle while Cotter (10) was on. Hess and Wright both played 80 minutes on their respective edges.

Molo (39), Cooper (31) and Hola (23) shared the remaining middle forward minutes.

The Titans had Mitch Rein (30) play limited minutes due to a calf injury, which saw Tanah Boyd (39) and Erin Clark (33) both get more minutes at hooker (and just in the middle generally) as a result.

Sam Lisone (38) also left the field for a HIA, which he passed. This may have given Jolliffe (47) more minutes (definitely not Wallace – 25) but Fotuaika (64) is the alpha forward now it appears Holbrook isn’t interested in playing Arrow (49) for any decent number of minutes. I mean Jolliffe almost got more than him. It boggles the mind when the Sharks were only just up 12-6 when Arrow went off, and then they scored another 18 points while he was off the field.

Fermor (75) had a decent debut but it’s looking like it’s going to be hard to trust anyone in this Titans’ team aside from Fotuaika. Hipgrave (80) played 80 minutes on his edge.

It’s not entirely surprising to see Moylan (29) didn’t even make it out of the first half, before Dugan took over and Talakai (51) came on at left centre. I know he was a former CTW but looking at him, it seems like that was a while ago!

No other injuries for the Sharks which saw a fairly typical rotation with minutes being shared between Uele (59), Woods (50), Rudolf (46), Fifita (42), JWilliams (34 – and was hooked in the first half after dropping three balls in three consecutive sets), with Hunt (16) not getting much game time but still scoring a try.

Brailey and Nikora played the full game as usual but Graham (73) was given an early shower which saw Fifita get a few extra minutes.

The Warriors lost Nikorima (5) early on, which saw CHT (75) move straight into the halves. This meant Egan (80) played the full game at hooker, although I think Lawton (80) – who started on an edge – spent some time there and also in the middle of the park.

Murchie (54) didn’t play the full game and was replaced by Papali’i (26) for the second part of the game.

The middle forward minutes were shared between Tohu (80), Blair (46), JTB (40), Hetherington (42) and Paasi (32).

No injuries for the Broncos although Luke (60) went off for a HIA, which he passed. Dearden (20) came on for him.

Otherwise we saw more Seibold shenanigans with Carrigan (64) playing all his minutes in one go, with Flegler (43) replacing him at the end. Haas (68) played the other big minutes in the pack, with Kennedy (20) and Te’o (15) hardly used.

Pangai (62) moved to the middle to accommodate Oates (48) on the edge, while he may have also had a busted lip or some other injury requiring some attention. Glenn played 80 minutes on the left edge as usual.

The Tigers had injury concerns for Luciano Leilua (59) who had the medicab brought out, but then was able to walk off on his own two feet. What may have happened is that Lucy was concussed and not responding to the trainer’s initial questions to check for a spinal injury (since Lucy was initially grabbing his jaw). With no response, the trainer called for the medicab, but what was probaby happening was that the poor kid was in la-la land and not comprehending the questions from the trainer. Once he had enough clarity of mind, he was able to respond and then the trainer realised he was fine.

Chee-Kam (25) took over on the edge. McIntyre (7) also left the field for a HIA early on and he didn’t return. This resulted in big minutes for Eisenhuth (74), with Aloiai (49), Clark (38), Mikaele (37) and Taylor (31) sharing the remainder of the middle forward minutes.

Grant and Garner played 80 minutes in their usual spots. Joey Leilua (78) was sinbinned.

The Panthers lost To’o (64) in the second half, which saw Burns (16) come off the bench to an edge, and I think it was actually Martin (80) who pushed to right centre and Naden (80) out to the wing.

This week we saw Isaah Yeo (65) given a breather, with JFH (57) spending some time at lock too. Kikau (80) played the full game but it’s unclear whether Burns may have impacted his and/or Martin’s minutes without the To’o injury.

Tamou (39), Tetevano (31), Leota (27) and May (21) shared minutes in the middle while Api played the full 80 minutes.

Sea Eagles

No major injuries this week but just a weird rotation involving Croker (56) who started at five eighth, then moved to hooker when Cust (51) came on, then left the field when Levi (53) returned to the field at hooker.

Thompson (64) went off for a HIA which saw Gosiewski (16) replace him while Thompson passed his HIA. Siro made it through the full 80 minutes again this week.

Obviously there’s lots of chat about AFB but he played 58 minutes and smashed out a lot of work, but then he was sent off after the full-time siren. Taupau (49), Paseka (31) and Keppie (22) shared the rest of the prop minutes, with Jake Turbo playing the full 80 at lock as usual.

DCE (70) was sinbinned.

The Knights lost Edrick LEe (6) early on to a broken arm, which saw Tex Hoy (74) come on as his replacement on the wing.

Later, they also lost Mata’utia (39) to yet another concussion, and failed his HIA. This saw Ese’ese (41) come on at lock and Guerra (49) pushed out to the right edge for the remainder of the game. Fitzgibbon (80) held down that left edge for the whole game.

With all the injuries, this meant Klemmer (60), DSaif (62) and JSaif (61) all had to play massive minutes, with Saulo (19) getting limited game time.

At the end of the game, Ponga (69) came off for a HIA with not enough time to pass, which meant another reshuffle with Hoy to fullback.

The Bulldogs lost Adam Elliott (54) in the second half, which coupled with a failed HIA for Sue (19) meant bigger minutes for Tolman (65) and possibly Napa (50). To’omaga (30) and Britt (22) played the other middle forward minutes.

RFM and Jackson both played 80 minutes on their edges, while JMK (62) and Holland (18) shared minutes at hooker.

The Rabbitohs had replaced James Roberts (63) with Burns (17) but due to an unfortunate injury, Roberts ended up coming back on to finish the game. This may have impacted the rotations with an unexpected substitution required to replace the injured Burns.

Murray (63) saw his biggest minutes at lock this year, with Tatola (50) and Turgess (48) getting their usual minutes at prop. Knight (35), Sele (27) and Mago (17) shared the other middle forward minutes.

Cook, Su’A and Lowe all played 80 minutes in their usual positions.

This is one of the most under rated articles on this site IMO.

Appreciate you churning it out each week mate, always a good read to surmise the rotations of the games we can’t watch.

Awesome stuff as always champ. Noticed the perpetual AE nightmare Tom eisenhuth starting to pump out some half decent scores on the back of some increased minutes. What do you reckon has happened there – injury related both weeks or is Bellamy finally giving him a decent go?

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
