When the next broadcast deal up for negotiation? I’d be going to Nine/Fox and saying lets do a new deal (to extend) and include this year in it so they get the revenue they need this year to not go broke.

You would hope they could work something out to get some of the broadcast money up front. But knowing NewsCorp they will probably try to swindle something out of it that will hurt everyone but themselves.

pretty sure it is meant to be negotiated at the end of the year, thats why greenberg was getting the flick apparently.

Well on a brighter note we have plenty of time to discuss, digest and decide on the Round 3 Trades log jam.
Here’s hoping for a quick and speedy normalisation to Footy season.

Can’t one of you techno experts come up with simulated games or something to still give us all an interest for SC???

so i did some quick maths with my centres
my current centres are bj/ramien/fergo/lomax for a grand total of 326 points in 2 rounds
however if i had started with yeo/iassako/staggs/lomax their total is 576 points
i had all these players in my team at some stage in the pre season
i am at the moment coming 17k ish if you add those 350 points i am coming 84th
it just shows how much you prepare for the season luck plays a big difference

Lots of people will have had those centres in preseason though, so if you add those pts for you, you have to for them too, in which case you wouldn’t be 84th. Its also why ranking after round 2 doesn’t matter a great deal. Its still close, and these things tend to even out a bit over time. However I certainly agree luck plays it’s part. Who could have predicted Burns base would drip off a cliff, Bj would lose interest due to corona virus payment cuts, fergo and Blake would miss out on big attack stats in the eels… Read more »

Just received this: Yesterday the big news from the NRL was the season is suspended until further notice. KFC SuperCoach NRL will be aligning the game accordingly. In these unprecedented times, it is important that we continue to communicate with our loyal players, and below is some information to better understand how the changes will work. Please note that news can of course change at any minute, and KFC SuperCoach will work through whatever is necessary to keep the game going. ATP, NHL and UEFA are all pushing for a June / July resumption. So yeah, May 1st does seem a tad optimistic.

Personally i’m expecting Canberra Raiders to be back playing by Easter because they’re always super quick with their recovery times mrgreen

I think on a brighter note my ideas of a 12 team comp could evenuate if some teams fold 6 NSW team’s A West Syd team , South Syd, East Syd, North Syd, Canberra and Newie 4 in Qld 1 in NZ 1 in PNG or Fiji or call it Pacific from both countries 22 Rounds , they all play each other twice, would mean its a more elite Comp , put all the traditional team’s in Reserve Grade , Balmain Newton Parra Canterbury Penrith basically all the suburban teams , i think alot of us would still follow that… Read more »

I like the idea of a more elite comp.

If I could scrap the whole thing and start again I’d like to see a 12 team comp made up of 2 QLD, 2 NSW, 2 VIC, 2 WA, 4 from NZ/Fiji/Tonga/Samoa/PNG. I think the sooner the game is less dominated by NSW/QLD the better for its growth.

I think it would also make for a viable second tier national comp that people would enjoy watching.

The team for South Sydney would be the Rabbitohs and the team for West Sydney would be the Panthers?! Surely that’s what he meant…

Haha Watson. It comes down to a tradition vs a viable option moving forward. With all clubs (pubs etc) closed for the forseeable future how will Panthers fare without Pokie revenue? Same with the Dogs, Wests and Newcastle to name just a few. Scary times indeed.

They are indeed Mort. Panthers could be in the red to the tune of $50 million. I picked a good time to retire… wink

I still think you need a team in Melbourne, Perth, maybe Adelaide. If you get a whole city, state behind a club then they can withstand financial pressure a bit more. Unfortunately I feel that clubs will go under this year. The Sydney ones will end up like the Bears, Jets and still compete there, maybe they can come back when times are better. If a team like the Storm, Titans go under then yeah their gone for good. Maybe have a promotion, relegation battle with the Sydney clubs?. They can’t sustain themselves atm.

Zarchy, unfortunately when the heart is taken out of a competition the competition all of a sudden has no heart, and the support base drops away. Take super league for an example or the renewed failures by Rugby union to create a national elite league. (NRC). Without the fan base and the passion there is no competition!

I don’t disagree with you on that. My scenario would only apply if the NRL went broke and someone else came along and started their own rugby league competition in a few years time. If it was me I’d be going after the big city audiences and trying to capture the most amount of potential fans. It would definitely take time for people to like it. Probably a whole generations time for people to grow to love a new team.

Just curious as to which club you support and what you would do if one of Newy/Canberra fold? Are you relocating a team, start a new team there or just prop them back up? What if Eels and Panthers don’t fold, still going to make/merge with Wests and kick the eels and panthers name back to lower grade? Wouldn’t really sit well with fans if that was the case. I Think what your suggesting only works if it is the teams that fold that fits where your suggesting, if you were to move Parramtta and Penrith to reserve grade when… Read more »

Don’t really specifically support an NRL club but got a soft spot for the Raiders. Originally a Bears supporter so know what it’s like to get kicked in the guts, more so then Souths. We never got a chance to get back in. But hey, they still have an operating leagues club and I still get a chance to don the jersey and watch them. It’s not ideal but there still there. Look at Mounties, they would probably be more financially secure then some NRL clubs yet only play in reserve grade. Sure they don’t have to pay massive player… Read more »

Yeah was more curious to opening post as it seemed like a non issue to him to put clubs in reserve grade that have 70 years of history. But you demonstrate what i am pointing out that by not keeping the history of clubs you lose fans that support them. I am sure you would be for a competition with relegation/promotion that gave an opportunity for the bears to have a chance of making it back to the nrl, i would love to see them back in it. Would bring way more interest to reserve grade and would mean teams… Read more »

I was a Balmain Die hard and i didn’t think i would support a merger , no way if it was with the eels. The club was in a mess so it made sense to merge instead of fold and i wasn’t happy about it but in the end it was a good call. I think with the Northen eagles they were both rivals so that was never going to work. I mention all the traditional team’s dragons dogs eels tiges bunnies roosters all played in reggies ( or classify like “championship 1” because it would still be a high… Read more »

Without footy there are always movies. Here are some movie recommendations… These are famous movies that if you’ve never got around to watching, now is the chance. 1. Casablanca – Probably the best script ever written with a cast that is just as good. Bogart wisecracks his way through the entire movie until he has to make the toughest choice of his life. 2. Once upon a Time in the West – my person fave Sergio Leone movie. Charlie Bronson delivers the greatest comeback at the beginning of the flick and the ending is a masterclass in editing. 3. Two… Read more »

If any of you have discord, I’m making a “discord quarantine olympics”. Essentially we play online games on mobile, or drawing, or trivia, anything that can be done at home (any ideas I’m open to hearing them). You play as a team with other supporters of your club, and earn medals just like the olympics. This runs until we get sick of it or run out of ideas or until the season starts. If you wanna get on board, here’s the link: https://discord.gg/aJ9Kak It hasn’t started yet, but will tomorrow night/Thursday. Even if you’re unsure, join and I can explain… Read more »
