Stilesy’s Late Mail – Round 24
This is the bon voyage mail article for me at NRLSCTalk, and given the post that went up yesterday, not just because I'm off to Canada this week. I've echoed my sentiments across the site and Twitter since the news broke, but again cannot be more thankful to have been part of the community and interacting with/learning from all of you, to Wenin and Nick for pioneering this level of content in the community and letting me be part of it, and to all the fellas who have contributed both before and with me. It's been a special ride.
I'm dropping this article today as it's my last chance to do so before my trip, and from there it'll be over to Lakey to both update this article if anything major happens, and to see out the year on Lake Mail duties. Thanks legend - heart you.
The final tweets for the season will come Thursday evening, at which stage I'll be off and Lakey/the NRLSCTalk account takes over from there.
Thanks everyone, it has been a blast.
MANLY-WARRINGAH SEA EAGLES vs PENRITH PANTHERS
Thursday, 7.50pm, 4 Pines Park, Sydney
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles
Not expecting anything major here. It wouldn't surprise if Aaron Woods moved to prop with Sean Keppie dropping to the bench, but that's purely speculation on my part.
24 HOUR CUTS: Weekes, Harper, Chan Kum Tong
Mitch Kenny and Jarome Luai were both ruled out Wednesday, with Penrith granted an exemption for Luke Sommerton to start at hooker. Jack Cogger comes into the halves.
I'm also seeing some speculation floating around that Brian To'o, Liam Martin and Dylan Edwards are carrying niggles but they made it through captain'srun and will play.
Penrith could also do another switch-a-roo at prop involving Moses Leota and Lindsay Smith.
24 HOUR CUTS: Luai, Kenny, Garner, Cole
CRONULLA-SUTHERLAND SHARKS vs GOLD COAST TITANS
Friday, 6.00pm, PointsBet Stadium, Sydney
Ronaldo Mulitalo should be right to return after speculation that he was out with a concussion from training a fortnight ago, not the jaw issue.
1-17 is a chance here.
Gold Coast Titans
The 9 and 13 roles look to have finally been named according to the usual game day swaps so 1-17 could be on here too, although it wouldn't surprise for another big body to come onto the bench in place of Kruise Leeming, however now that they're down a hooker in Verrills he could be required cover.
BRISBANE BRONCOS vs PARRAMATTA EELS
Friday 8:00pm, The Gabba, Brisbane
With the bye next round it would be entirely unsurprising to see Adam Reynolds given another week off to get him right for a premiership push, which would again see Jock Madden come into the halves.
Reece Walsh is also in doubt with a shoulder issue and has been training so far in a light contact bib. Again, with the bye next round, an additional week off wouldn't surprise with Tristan Sailor waiting on the extended bench.
Ryan Matterson owners will be hoping for a late swap onto the edge in place of Andrew Davey given his output last week as a starter. It could happen, but I'm inclined to expect 1-17 here for now.
SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS vs St. GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS
Saturday, 3.00pm, Barlow Park, Cairns
South Sydney Rabbitohs
Tyrone Munro was one of the most sweated-on players this season last round, and to (now Lakey's) chagrin, he has once again been named on the extended bench. I'm unsure if owners would prefer him to stay there or repalce Taane Milne again, but it will likely be another wait-and-see.
As usual, a game day swap at prop wouldn't surprise, particularly given the state of Jai Arrow's back during their last match.
St George-Illawarra Dragons
Not expecting any changes at this stage for the Dragons, though they usual have some kind of shuffle on game day.
WESTS TIGERS vs THE WARRIORS
Saturday, 5:30pm, FMG Stadium Waikato, Hamilton
Daine Laurie is surely in doubt here after his HIA last week and would need to pass protocols. No other changes expected.
Named according to their injuries, but another team who usually has some kind of prop/bench/extended shuffle on game day that is generally hard to pick in advance.
Not expecting anything major however.
SYDNEY ROOSTERS vs THE DOLPHINS
Saturday, 7:35pm, Allianz Stadium, Sydney
Nobody in doubt here and named according to their game day halves shuffle last week, so expecting 1-17 at this stage.
Another side that's hard to predict as there are often shuffles involving multiple positions on game day. Kodi Nikorima, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Isaiya Katoa are often involved so be on the lookout, but similarly they could all stay put.
MELBOURNE STORM vs CANBERRA RAIDERS
Sunday 2.00pm, AAMI Park, Melbourne
Not expecting any changes here either, though Jahrome Hughes and Xavier Coates will both be watches after failing to lineup last week.
There is also a chance that either Nelson Asofa-Solomona or Eliesa Katoa find themselves on the edge come game day.
1-17 on the cards for the Green Machine.
NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs CANTERBURY-BANKSTOWN BULLDOGS
Sunday, 4.05pm, McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle
Jacob Saifiti has been named but is dealing with a hamstring issue so could be a late out. The rest of the side should be unchanged.
Fresh off the bye, I'm not expecting any changes. It will be good to see Luke Thompson run out again.
