Loving the new rule re 13 players during byes. It’s great to keep as many people in it for as long as possible. I’d have gone further and given more trades but that will come at some point. My top 3 questions for 2023 so far… 1. Nico. Can he repeat last year? I have my doubts. Everything went right for him and the Sharks last year. 2. In hindsight, using 3 boosts early to get you team right seemed the best method last year. Keeping them late into the season with few trades makes them tougher to use. But… Read more »
I dont like the 13 man rule, it takes away from the benefit of bye planning in the overall comp and caters to casual players.
Could you please explain the 13 man rule, TP? I have just come back from a lazy pre season talk/chats. thanks.
For origin rounds, you pick 17 players, but only the best 13 get scored

I’ve come around to it. It takes away the annoying thing of planning for byes, just to get stuffed by injuries etc. Best 13 still gives some benefit to bye planning with the extra players outside of the 13 being an extra throw of the dice at a good score.
It will be harder to make up ground during the byes bud. This rule change levels the field somewhat
True. I guess my tried and true strat of being in the 8000s after 10 rounds just won’t cut it anymore
It also places way more importance on the team you start with.
I suspect we’re gonna see more people with a 2nd team this year.

I don’t know about that…. I just checked ownership of Clearly and at 56% it’s up to 27,500 or there abouts….. unless Sangsta got 150,000 coaches not starting with a team…. I would say that’s bollex or somewhat misunderstood 😉
Not quite correct. He said sign ups are well and truly in front of where they were projecting at that point in time, if the same trend continues there will be over 200,000 team (said more tongue in cheek than factually quoting numbers)…
Just taking it in. On the few minutes and your response, Spitty i think it has good merit.
The extra players won’t give you an extra throw of the dice for a good score Spitty , they don’t count !
Best 13 scorers out of a possible 17 gives some advantage.
CF raised this riddle. What if your C gets knocked out on 5 pts. Would he be replaced by a 40 pt player in the 17
It’s the best 13 scores Red. If you have 17 players the 4 weakest scores don’t count. If one of your guns gets injured in the first 10 minutes, his low score won’t count because you have extra players to draw on
Its a good question though. You have 14 players that play, your captain is your lowest scoring player. Does your captain drop out and you get the VC player instead?
I know its splitting straws but I know my luck. VC player get 70 I roll the dice and my captain sees stars after 30 seconds.
Ive been thinking this since they brought out this rule – Id have thought your captain remained in your “13” regardless but who knows – they will need to clarify prior surely
My thoughts are that it’s about what his score doubled is. If he’s injured early, his double points will be low. Another player can bump him out of your top 13 scorers. As mentioned before, this is only my take on it.
That’s an interesting point you make Bogan about the captain dropping out because he isnt your top 13 scorers. If he drops out does your Vc double his score ? Sounds like a can of worms about to be opened on this rule. If Vc turns into your captain it’s just another way to manipulate the system .
I would think that if your captain got injured early and only had say 10 points up. That’s 20 as captain. If your 14th player had 21 points, I’d imagine you would get his points instead.
Just my thoughts though.
I don’t like the 13 best scores during the major bye rounds . If you are fortunate enough to have 17 players I don’t think you should be penalised to cater for those that can’t field a full team.
Hey Tommy , is there a chance that you could clarify how this best 13 players works in relation to if your captain doesn’t make the best 13?
Will you get an automatic loop if your C fails to make the highest 13 scores?
Gees, getting 13 decent players in Rd 13 looks tough!
I don’t mind the new best-13 rule for the 3 big byes. Besides the C/VC confusion, I think it allows for a free swing for some high-risk-high-reward types. So, more depth than 13 could still pay off big time – potentially more than previous years. Also, good C/VC choices are critical (potentially a higher % of your score now).
Anybody running with Papy to start or we waiting for that price drop?

Ipap gun but i think waiting to see how the tigers go / potential price drop would be prudent.
In relation to Pap, who even knows when he will be back – have they put a return date on him yet?

Just thinking having a team on the bye each week should see more VC loops.
The loop option will only be used if you get a good scoring VC just like last year. The chance that you will have a few more non players on any given round certainly increases the option of looping.
Here’s to Captain Sloan in Rd 1 when VC Cleary reaches three figures! It will make my decision of captaining Teddy or Manu much easier!

Which is the bigger trap – Dunster or Doorey. I can’t believe the three week Carty Party has been cancelled already!
Definitely Dunster, Russell is in front of him atm so he will be the one to drop out when Balke is back.
Doorey is secure unless he has a horrible trial series. My prediction is Doorey will be owned by at least 40% of teams come round 1.

A mate of mine is good mates with Young’s manager. Apparently Young visited Bennett’s farrm and “wooed” him. The visit went very well.

First year moving our Keeper/Dynasty league over to SuperCoach now with enough improvements to allow me to stop hacking our private website…
Not a big fan of the squad size and use of emergencies rather than reserves as per classic. Unless I’m missing something?
Is there a way to have 17 scoring players (13 positional + 4 reserves + EMG) in draft as per classic? We usually have a 25 man squad that gets delisted down to 15 prior to the pre season draft. May need to reduce that with only 13 scoring players…
I enjoy playing both + DT. You pick your starting 13 + 4 reserves (ensuring your reserves are from the round’s later games, but your C and VC must be in your starting 13). No emergency can be chosen, if you need one it is your lowest scoring player out of your 17. Your C and VC aren’t locked until the scheduled kick off time of their game. The Loop becomes very handy when your VC scores big and your C hasn’t played yet. I like to loop via my centres as it is usually the weakest part of most… Read more »

I know how SC works in general – you have described the “Classic” set up. In draft though, there doesn’t seem to be a way to set “Reserves” and are limited to the starting 13 being the scorers.
Oh, my apologies. I didn’t know it was draft you were talking about.
No problem, thanks for the reply anyway. I can see I didn’t really make it clear in my original post.
For anyone else reading, SC support has since confirmed that reserves are not an option in draft, which is a shame particularly for smaller leagues where the player pool is deeper.

not sure if that help to plan ahead for them Rd’s but I wouldn’t stack my Team with too many of the above Clubs during that time period is my thought

Not quiet true Red…. for and against points could effect your ranking in leagues
The major bye rounds are not part of the h2h season TG , they are just like the starting rounds from yester years. Points scored will count in your overall score and ranking but because there is no match ups in those rounds there is no for and against changes.
Thxs for the clarification Red…. it becomes somewhat confusing when they change rules… considering in the Bye Rd’s Last Year we played head to head…. in RD 13 and 17 …. 8 Teams were rested…. this year it’s only 7 teams that are rested You would think 10 – 13 players is achievable
I don’t think the powers that be have put enough thought into some rule changes for this year.

Your spot on Dieharder , admin of league can choose to play bye rounds so thanks for correcting me on that.
On the contrary I’d be stacking up players from those teams. Origin players only miss the one other game and you only need 13 for a full compliment during those rounds anyway
I can’t even prepare properly for Rd 1, let alone Rd 13!
My 2 cents on this: -I would consider weeks 13-20 as a whole, because the rounds after the major bye (14,17 & 20) have 3 teams on bye, so each 2 round major bye 13/14, 17/18 & 19/20 have 10 teams on a bye over those 2 rounds -Don’t underestimate rounds 14, 17 & 20, not only are there 3 teams on bye, there’s origin stars likely to rest and we have to field 17 on those rounds (not just 13) All team except 2 have 2 byes over period 13-20. 1) Latrell and Smith or 2)Robson and Turbo or 3) Turbo and Smith.
3, 1, 2 (my order). I think Turbo and Smith represent the best overall value (just bear in mind Turbo doesn’t play R2 and Smith R4). I’m assuming you mean BSmith not RSmith.
Correct. Obviously TLT will ultimately decide as there currently seems a veritable plethora of cheapies so value is not so important. Having Turbo (and Schuster) out for Rd 2 is not nearly as terrible as Cleary (and Garner) in Rd 3. That Roosters bye in Rd 4 terrifies me, I’ve got 4 currently so no doubt i’ll have multiple injuries from Rd 3 to deal with as well.
If Hess begins the season in 2RF, is he a good option for 2nd FRF. That Cowboys draw is incredible!
Not for me. Hess has always been a disappointment IRL and SC.
Did he play origin last year?

Anyone planning a draft with the grand final in Rd 26? Souths have the bye so all their big guns won’t play, so I’d suggest having it on Rd 25 -where the Broncs have the bye!

What trial are you going to or alternatively what one would you like to go to??

I’m thinking Doueihi over Robson as there doesn’t appear to be a great choice at 5/8. As far as my second HOK goes would you go Clark (and his dual) or Egan and his potential 80 mins? Speaking of 2nd HOK, anyone heard anything about Luke getting 50 ish mins off the bench? Sangster mentioned it, but I’ve not heard much from anywhere ekse.
Think it was mentioned by Tim Williams in his Panthers overview on SCPlaybook. Just speculation at this stage though I would think.
Has anyone had any issues claiming prizes in SuperCoach?
I was lucky enough to won a weekly prize in BBL SuperCoach back in December, but still haven’t received it yet. I’ve tried contacting SC and News Corp but get basically no response from any attempt, and don’t know what I’m supposed to do next.
Surely there are some here who have won something in NRL SC, so have you had any issues claiming it or receiving it?

The top 111 prize emails were sent out last year at the time of the final (not quite 2 weeks after the final round for SC).
The emails were sent from support@virtualsports.com.au – you could try contacting them this way next week if you don’t hear this weekend.
