I’ve been sitting on Cook and Smith for a while (and will probably end up going that way), but is anyone else entertaining running with Friend and McCollough together?

They both seem like decent value, and obviously come a lot cheaper than the other two I mentioned.

CY.
I am. I put forward the idea last week and the general feedback was it was pointless to go with both.

But I like it. I think they can both average 60 and be guys you can play in your 17 week in, week out. Both are undervalued and have good SC pedigree.

I’m happy with one of them , I can’t go past cook .
Friend has the stats towards the back end of last year, 80 min puts him ahead of Smith and Macca imo .

I’m not a fan, but I guess it all depends on what you’re sacrificing to go with both of them (what would your team look like with them in it)? And what’s the long term plan with them? When do you upgrade to Cook? Are you prepared to spend all that money at hooker, yet miss out on all those weeks of Cook if he maintains a near-80 average?

You’ll be forced to play them in your 17 every week, even ride all the games where they don’t play 80 minutes.

Jake’s scores in the Finals series: 49, 35. 57 – you’ll have to be prepared to take those type of scores in your 17 every week.

Manly and eels first 2/3 games, so he has the best chance for attacking stats and a big start early .
He scored 104 against manly so finals aside he has the pedigree to go well early .

Friend was under the pump early last year , fans didn’t want him so he dropped his minutes to get more attacking stats because they had a solid bench replacement , this season Radley is starting and I can’t see radley playing big mins the way he tackles so whilst he is a risk I believe he is a calculatdd risk

As I’ve told you before, you can’t go off what happens against x-team last season, and assume that it’ll be the case this season against x-team. Especially for a player like Friend, whose attacking stats are far and few between.

Roosters scored 56 points that day, the conditions/factors that were present in that game are extremely unlikely to be there in R2 this season.

It is the only thing to go off in terms of fixtures (other than venue), but we also need to calm down with it. Eels and Manly may have been amazing fixtures back half of last year but it doesn’t mean that they will be amazing this year. However you’d much rather your half be playing those two rather than storm and roosters.

Dunno about analysing fixtures for hookers though. Their attacking stats are hardly predictable.

I do like both of options but to me spending that much in hooker instead of getting the number one option is silly.

McCullough has been bouncing in and out of my side all preseason.
With Cooks price and the uncertainty around Smiths role, he is now firmly locked in my team.
Being an 80min hooker I reckon he averages 60-65.

Not expecting huge things from my beloved Sea Eagles this year, but good to see Dessie getting the players to buy their own iPads: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/teams/sea-eagles/he-made-us-all-buy-an-ipad-hasler-wastes-no-time-in-manly-overhaul/news-story/c9f7cba1ce141fab916fd2c283fbfcd8

Time For Plan B my team has been completely different every day , trying different balances . This week my 25 looks like this : Cook , friend * Fotu , Lawrie mikaele tatola Arrow jurbo Murray Ipap* nikora Bsmith Keighran , brown Ponga , Cody * Marsters feldt gutho CHN Garrick salmon Lomax* Ted hoppa This team is heavily dependent on Lawrie starting at lock otherwise Drinkwater and Allen come in and I take out 2 centres and I bring in Paulo/twal/Fifi/kapow , it’s up in the air at the moment . TLT will decide which chespies and guns… Read more »

If he plays lock yes , if he doesn’t then he is out of my team.
I left out tpj , I have a feeling Jo will play lock and if he does then I’m not keen.

I doubt Jo plays lock tbh. TPJ just offers so much more and I feel no matter what all the bronocs forwards will have a big change this year, faster play the balls, fitter (as one forward was dropped being unfit) and a more structured game plan with players in set positions.

60 min tpj at lock makes him top scorer imo but what if seib plays lodge JO at prop then goes with Glenn Dfifi Gillett . After all seib kept Murray off us for majority of the season.

Your relying on a few things to fall in place with that FRF. Yes it’s a draft team but ideally you would have someone there who you think would be in at least the top 3 FRF scorers come the end of year otherwise your dropping to many points. Yes Cody and Freind are great reserves to have but I would rather concentrate on points per position at the start, considering you have to play a cheapie half too.

OTB. Always like your additions mate. But if I’m being honest I think the balance of your team is out. You have two rookies at halfback and two unknowns (in terms of mins) as your starting props. That means you have to rely on 3 unreliable players each week in your starting 17. And if they don’t fire, it makes it hard to upgrade in those positions. I think you need to sacrifice some money in your CTW for those other positions. Or keep it as is, top score in the opening round and I’ll run back to my computer… Read more »

Players like DCE Cleary Jurbo all started out AVG high as cheapies . Keighran GK half and plenty have him as a reserve , what difference does it make if he is my 7 or 17? It comes down to do I want Cleary/SJ/DCE in my team or have Cody at 5/8 with ponga. If keighran gets injured then warriors other 2 back ups are cheapies too, like for like Imo. I can’t see my team without SJ though so my decision is going to be how many gun fullbacks and halves can I afford …… As for prop and… Read more »

It’s fine if you play Keighran as a 17, but still going back to points per position, it’s LIKELY that the Cleary, SJ ext will outscore him. I feel the gap in points is to big.

I understand where you are coming from but he could well end up in the top 3, considering he scored 10 tries and 200 points in ISP last season , he was an Australian schoolboy who played with Cleary B Brailey and Murray all gun players he likes to run and surely gets assists and TCs as green is more an organiser . He also had 13 LB 10 tries 13 ta 8 lba kicking at 81%, his stats outweigh players like Egan Flanagan and Blake Brailey . Obviously he hasn’t got the runs on the board and will be… Read more »

A concern I have for Keighran is if he is so good, then why did the warriors go after Brown.

A Flock Of Sea Eagles
Member

Probably because he’s originally from NZ, and not unlike all the other players that end up migrating across the ditch, the Warriors always end up wanting them back.

jnrglover

I think the issue is the worst case scenario. If he goes down injured and Brown is a bust, you are forced to sell another player in your squad to generate cash.

The balance of the team isn’t just points but also funds.

The Myth

I like the idea but it’s just too risky for mine.

If Fotu Lawrie and Keighran all kill it you’re flying. But realistically how likely are they all to be slam dunk picks. They are in starting positions, which means if they fail you don’t even have the opportunity to bench him. They are immediate problems that you have to fix immediately, you don’t have the chance to bench them and wait for an opportune chance to sell.

If you had Fifi in there over Tatola for example then it’s one less risk and a bit more safety.

Thanks for posting man. Interesting team though that’s for sure. Still in draft mode like all of us though. Good to actually see your team though man. Curious how much cash ITB though. Surely quite a bit?

Apologies if this has been asked before…

Article today (see below) noting that DCE halves partner is not yet locked in. If its Hodko, does he goal kick instead of DCE? I unfortunately think that Hodko by might be in front given that Des didn’t sign Elgey (Barrett did back in August) and that Hodko has played under Des before.

Saw the same article and had similar thoughts, but I think Dessie let Hodko go twice, didn’t he?!?! Once at Manly and once at the Dogs. My gut tells me that Elgey gets it unless he totally stuffs up in the trails. Elgey can also kick goals IIRC.

Hodko had everything going for him at the dogs.. just can’t believe such a promising player has fallen off a cliff.
