G Williams Priced at about a 36, so what are we hoping for to get some value? best case scenario he maybe pushes 50? Cons Wighton got 53 last year playing on a brand new side of the park injury cloud hodgson touches the ball too much never played nrl sezer + Swilliams never saw sc points in the same position and im tipping raiders to regress so not buying into the draw too much… id love him for team structure but just not sold. At best i think he scrapes a sub 45 average which isnt worth a reserve… Read more »

36 av is probably his floor (I think that’s reasonable to assume) so he probably won’t lose money, even if he “only” averages 50 you’ve made about 130k and burned 1 trade.

At his price you get a playing 5/8 that then allows you to distribute funds and turn a mid-range risk forward or CTW into a proven gun

Edit- from the reports I’ve read he has a SC friendly game, even if he doesn’t reach the heights of his SL stats his style of play (probably) won’t change too much

Good analysis. 1 trade used to be worth about 100k so as long as he makes that and you can move him on at an appropriate time he is a great cheapie. Williams is a must have IMO

Canberra look like they are doing what the Storm are doing (without the same quality) – basically playing 2 5/8s with Hodgson playing a half back role. Be interesting to see how it eventuates.

Regardless, it sounds like Williams is a guy that will score ok in SC, regardless of how well it translates to NRL. With a soft draw, I’m hoping he can average 50 for the first 6 weeks and then I’ll look at other options.

He only needs to get 1 or 2 good scores in succession and his price will rocket up, and with the Raiders draw and his play style I can definitely see a couple 70 or 80+ scores.

The Raiders opening draw is a big plus. IMO the easiest opening 10 rounds of any team.

Flock is he in your side or not?

    If someone like johns/walters starts/bench I could fit a 2rf off Murray/Lolo/Arrow/Lucy/Williams/DFifi

If I grab Williams means I would drop either Arrow or Lucy to fit him in

He’s been in and out my side lately, purely for the fact that Knight gives me more luxury of upgrading him. I guess it all depends on the structure of your squad.

So comparing teams atm mine is:

    Api – BB
    Hass/Knight – Rudolf/Koloa
    Lolo/Murray/Arrow – DFifi/Lucy/Williams
    Cleary – Walters
    Milf – Luai
    Lee/Isakoo/Best/HSS – Lele/Coates/Milne
    Papy – POngs

Bird is only getting a start there in the trial, Isakoo is at the nines in perth with Arturs. Bird would be third on that list. Issue is with Staggs a lock in right center, and boyd impressing at left center where does a big $$$ player go? I think FLB is Isakoo’s to lose

Keary will be the main guy at the Roosters. Kyle will take on more of a backseat role and will be eased in. IMO he will not be supercoach relevant especially given some talk he may loose the goal kicking to TKO. To top it off he is priced way too high for someone who is still essentially a rookie in NRL terms. Look to other options in G Williams from Raiders and/or Luai from Panthers.

Couldn’t take a risk on any new roosters signing. Last season crichton didn’t start firing until after origin, teddy took a while to be comfortable at the chooks too. I expect Kyle to be eased in and not see much ball early on in the season

With all the talk about Murray’s new role, it makes me curious about the South’s backline.

Bennett knows he’s got latrell out the back with reynolds/walker in the halves to get the backline moving.

Got a feeling Souths will change their style of play. We were very forward dominated when we had the burgess boys but may see a change to more early shifts in attack. Still need the go forward before they can promote the ball wide but less dependant of having to dominate the middle but more hold the middle before using the speed and skill out wide.

if Walters and CHT are benched, who do we see as the next best cheap half option outside of Luai/GWill? I am pretty set on 1 gun half to start but it would mean taking a punt on a Brimson/Milf/Turpin type. They are risky mids for a reason.

he doesnt have the base to get to 150s, hovers around 20-30 but he seems to have a hand in alot of the tries and makes a heap of LBs .

100% , it just depends on when to get him . Could start hot or might be better to wait before the bye. I’m leaning to start him .
they have him projecting to lose 25 K over the first 5 rounds , thats with scores of mid 30s .

They also Project him to make 40k by the round 12 bye , thats with no scores over 60!!

best to pick and get rid of him after the first bye.

While he did average 60 in those four games, that includes four tries and four linebreaks, which equals out to one try and one linebreak every game, which means he’s only hovering around 30 points without any attacking stats.

And given that the Titans have one of the toughest early draws, it doesn’t bode well for those wanting to start with him.

    OnTheBus
    Member
    Gun

like i said his base is low but in other games he scored 50s he had TAs and LBAs , games he scored 90s he had 3 line breaks and assists with no tries.

He seems to feature in titans tries , base is concerning but titans have points in them unless you think titans score under 10 pts every game

Clint Gutherson… flew out of the blocks in SC 2019- Had low ownership, made good $$$, and plenty of juicy pod points for those that picked him from the start. 1. Did anyone on here have him last year?, 2. Will it happen again to another “untouched” player?

Okunbor comes with insane risk imo. Even 1% seems high for his ownership. Seems overpriced without popping off early. With Bulldogs who knows how they will play this year whether they build off last years late momentum or fall back into a bottom 4 rut. Either way they were probably the worst attacking team last year behind Cowboys in the sense that they only scored more than 4 tries in a game once all season and it was the last game of the season. Even the Titans had more 5+ try performances (4) in Round 5, 6, 11 and 21.… Read more »

LaneTrain, good to see! I never picked him (Gutho) last year, but also had RTS which I was fine with at start. Can you remember why you took on Gutho, as stroke of genius imo? Remember he tore his ACL in 2017. He came back mid season in 2018 and bounced around the field, playing fullback, five eighth, and centre. Never cemented a role in the team. He averaged 60+ in 2017 at fullback so the potential was there for him to return to gun status with a full preseason. Not to mention the Eels came last that season, so there was nowhere to go but up for the side. CTW availability helped his case massively too.

Doing a bit of a deep dive into the schedule again (and with some help from SC Playbook), it seems the Eels’ opening 4 games are against the top 4 worst teams for allowing SC points: Bulldogs (H), Titans (A), Cowboys (A), Dragons (H). Both away games in QLD are at night and all have at least a 6 day turn around. Does this have anyone seriously considering some of Parra’s attacking players e.g. Fergo, Blake, Matto, Moses etc. I’m even considering Nathan Brown: – cheaper starting price than Arrow – Has been a genuine gun in the past averaging… Read more »

I wouldn’t look much into Parras draw tbh, I’ve always found them a hard team to read. Have they finally found some consistancy? And who’s to say those four teams haven’t had a good off season and are ready to man up this year?

That R4 game, against the Dragons, at home, is definitely favourable towards the Eels, but I’m not sure the other three are:

R1 against the Dogs, who stonewalled teams in the latter stages of last season, on a Thursday night, which hasn’t typically been the best day for SC points. And R2 and R3, against the Titans and Broncos, both away in Qld; the Broncos will be looking for redemption after their Finals matchup last season, and the Cowboys who should be stronger than they were last season.

    dfez03

So 2 out of the 4 opening games may not be as a much a thumping as the draw suggests. Having said, this guys like Fergo, Blake and Ma’u all scored well against the Dogs last year. Additionally, the Dogs v Eels match in r23 was on a Thursday at Bankwest in which Blake and Ma’u did well. Agree with you on the Cowboys – they should be better offensively, but I have my doubts about their left-edge defence.

I don’t think the Eels draw is as great as advertised, to be honest. I fell into that thinking that it was when the draw was first released, but upon further review, he doesn’t really open up until R11. That doesn’t mean that the Eels players won’t score well up until then, I just don’t think they will score as well as expected.

With that said, it might not matter about the perception of their draw, as I do expect them to challenge for the minor premiership, and they’ll be putting teams to the sword, whether it’s a easy matchup or not.

I do think their attack will be more balanced this season, which is one of the reasons putting me off Moses.

    Catfish

I’m not an Eels fan but plenty of them have been wary of getting too excited for them – the last time they were hyped up this much in the preseason was 2018… and we all know how that ended.
