Countdown to round 1 is on. A few 2020 ladders going around by the “experts”, any out there predictions on teams or players in SuperCoach? I’m intrigued by the Bunnies and the fullback position. Does Douehi retain it, or potential tackle busting freak Edene Gebbie get a run? His QLD cup highlights are ridiculous.

I have Gebbie as this years ponga/Xerri story. Won’t start round 1 but will force his way in somehow and you will wish you had him on your bench rd 1

Turbo: While underpriced, he has a tough early draw, and there are cheaper options out there who can provide similar value. Doueihi: 38 point avg in nine games at FB, and is priced accordingly. Given that, I don’t know if he’s particularly SC relevant. Walker: Unless you foresee him replicating his 2018 start, I think there’s far better value out there. Fotu: I don’t know where the minutes are going to come from to warrant picking him at his price, especially with Arrow and James back in the middle rotation. Ford: With Sims and Frizell on the edges, he won’t… Read more »

Yay for 2020 Year of the Eel Bring on the footy !

Fooling around and came up with this team

    Hodgenson , B Brailey
    Fonua , Fifita , James , nufi
    Lolo , Matterson , Brown , Difita , J Williams , Magoulias
Pearce ( yes i laugh too but good early draw) Luai
    G Williams , Brimson
    Blake , Lomax , B Smith , Best ,Talau , Wlliame , Gebbie
    Ponga , Paps …

Not real happy with the ctw but trials and team lists will sort out

I am really interested in Brimson at FLB, but still playing for the titans is a concern. Williams and Magoulias only 1 will be important, whoever gets gals spot.

Brimson averaged 0.62ppm in 9.5 games at FB last year – approximately a 50avg if he can maintain that. Fair to think the Titans might be a little better this year too.

Thanks Sydney, do agree titans can’t be any worse, and with James back and hopefully an early release for tino/swap with arrow could see them start to do well.

is Fonua going to be fit for round 1. I thought he was in doubt for the 1st month due to his shoulder injury

Looking at a few early teams and i reckon Bateman will be the Cook 2019 Smith 2018.

Personally see him as a must have , interested in hearing why ppl are ignoring him.

He has lost his duel and G Williams running more are the only things i can think of.

Do we take the Bait or not , last year it was to cook or be cooked and non owners got fried smile

Happy New year, less than 10 weeks now

Definitely not a must-have (far from it at his price and dual-loss), but could be a good POD, considering Lolo will be the more popular pick.

Hard to see non-owner teams being left behind like those without Cook last season, given that Bateman has many equals at his position, and Smith was the only rival to Cook.

Going to be interesting to see how the Sydney & Canberra forwards go with a disruptive preseason (bushfires). Plus Tapine back to full fitness may see Bateman loose a few minutes at the start of the season.

Seems very unlikely that Bateman loses any minutes IMO.

He did finish 8th overall pts for second row position and 3rd overall for 2nd row position on avg’s . Take away Manu Mau and he is only behind Lolo . I know he is only a few pts ahead of other backrowers but i can see him improving outside Williams and another year in NRL. Hard to leave out player’s who love getting involved in a game of footy imo. Also when spending the $$ on set and forget keepers , his name would have to be in the top 7-8 , i get your point about not falling… Read more »

He is on my list, only reason I’m looking elsewhere is I see a couple good value options that I feel will match his scoring. Crichton if he gets the starting gig had 2 years averaging 69, David Fifita averaged 72 in games he played 80, there are a few 100+ scores in there that might be inflating but if he starts he’s a good option. Matterson is slightly cheaper and his average is impacted by a few sub 80 min games and a few games not playing in the 2RF.

What do people think about the impact the new rule changes will have on the game and SC? I think the addition of the 20-40 will see the wingers and fullback drop back early after kicks and see plenty of early wide shifts of the footy. The new scrum rule allowing midfield scrums is quite exciting and should see some more creative plays of set-pieces and nice early ball to fast outside backs. I expect both rules to result in teams shifting the ball wide more often and preferring to keep the ball in play rather than kick it out… Read more »

The trials will be the first look at how coaches adapt to the new rules. Every season we look to see how new rules will change sc scoring and so far none have had a major impact . Some fwds will/ could stand out of scrums and be major factors in the scoring zones. Absolute lottery and for me it will be business as normal .

I cant see the rule changes making any difference. There were already midfield scrums from knock-ons and there was rarely any attacking set pieces. Additionally, the scrum clock remains the same so it wont result in quicker scrums or more fatigue. Teams wont attempt any 20-40s (except maybe as a hail mary later in games). Two reasons I have for this, the 20m restart is still optional, yet when is the last time someone kicked and coaches wont accept the risk of it going wrong. Kick it out on the full you give a restart in your 20, don’t find… Read more »

I think that rule about the defending team cant tackle an attacking player in the air over or near the try line will open up a world of hurt .. plenty of 8 point tries

I think this rule will definitely make tall wingers a great target in attack. I’m thinking guys who can jump for a bomb, like Tupou, Feldt, etc could benefit.

My biggest concern is the Captain’s Challenge rule being exploited to stop the game when it’s to your advantage.

What are people’s thoughts on Wright from the Cows? His performances when playing 80 last year are very promising from a SC perspective.

There is room for a bit of growth but 0.72 ppm doesn’t really inspire. he would need to get a sizeable increase in game time which seems improbable in a crowded cowboys pack. Having said that I have him in a group of midrangers I will monitor

Molo is a Cow I’ve got my eyes on. 1.35ppm last season and should get a minutes bump. Not super cheap though at just under $300k.

$300k for a benchie – cant even see him as a bye buy . Moose being our only loss.
