First iteration of the team for the year. Thoughts?
B.Smith, Hodgson
Cotter, Tohu, Hetherington, Pele
Kikau, Bateman, Horsburgh E. Katoa, Garner, Hopgood
Cleary, Hynes
Burton, Schuster
Naden, Staggs, HTF, CNK, Alamoti, Te Whare, Howarth
Turbo, Miller
CTW could be a turkey shoot, I’m hoping they make money, Staggs back fitter without a shoulder concern, Naden getting better service outside bateman/Ipap, Hammer hopefully getting the FB role. The rest I’ve tried to mix potential cash growth with guns/stability
It’s obviously hard to fit em all in, but you seem to have covered every position with solid picks and then mid-rangers and cheapies to back them up. Hodgo is a bit of a risk I reckon – can see him fizzing like a wet fire-cracker (in SC at least), but if your 2RF/FRF & CTW fire early then you are set for success. I like the presence of Bateman in your 2RF. Good luck with it all! 😉
yeah that’s the fun part, trying to get all the stars to align I’m not expecting a lot from Hodgson but I feel he’s undervalued and could make a 100-150k at least and be an easier transition to a keeper when he peaks.
I think you need to lose one of your FRF guns and spend that cash at FB.

PODish and probably a little under-priced. I assume he has bulked up in the off-season (got overpowered in defence a few times last season). His position seems fairly safe with CNK gone. Personally, I’m going with 2 guns at FLB.
Had to adjust a few drafts considering I feature at least 1 from every team and no more than 2 players from the same team to start the season. Rip & tear SC peeps!
Nice overall balance IMO. I only have question marks over Welch (back from serious Achillles injury) and Gilbert (does he start?). Also, Loiera might be better than Katoa (TLT will reveal pecking order).
Just keep in mind that Webb, Howarth, VFifita, IKatoa, Alomoti, Te Whare and Hodgson are all not likely to appear on TLT. With the bye every week this year you can’t have many NPR’s from the start (1 maybe 2).
The talk is that Luke will get more minutes than Kenny at Panthers.
Sonny, to be honest those names are only filling the gaps until i find out who is playing after TLT. I should have mentioned that from the get go. Thanks for the tip.
Howdy, Bunny. I think you need another starter in your 2RF (though Aitken is dual). I think you’re a bit too stacked in the centres (Aitken at $585K in a new team?). You also face a potential problem in R3 with the Panthers bye if I.Katoa doesn’t start for the Dolphins. GL for the season.
The CTW is causing me great concern this year. A lot of the popular cheaper options I think are either major traps or just unlikely to get the nod. FB available at CTW Hammer, Sloan, Staines, CNK. Out of this lot only CNK is a worker and actively looks to get involved. The others have abysmal base and are in arguably weaker teams in the comp. Hook showed last year he has no faith in Sloan. Hammer did poorly last year at he cows before he lost the position to Drinky. Staines has an unhill battle to take the 1… Read more »
I’m ok with playing CNK and HTF.
CNK has International credits. Hammer played in a winning Origin game but his development has been hampered by injuries.I think they have good job security compared to Thompson and Khan. Sloane slightly dodgier but loop option rnd 1 and he wont make my 17 but he is slick enough in attack to get a score that will make us money. All in teams with reasonable draw so fingers crossed they will do their job.
Absolutely agree. None likely to set the world on fire, but all seem to have the coaches nod early on. That said, I will probably end up with all 3 of the ctw/flb duels + the Alomoti’s & Khan’s so I can afford the double guns in elsewhere.
An option I saw is Maumalo who is just out of cheapie range. Also been thinking of starting Turuva from Panthers. He’s playable and just needs an injury in the backs to keep his spot
Hi Guys, Haven’t posted in yonks, but love reading this awesome site. Great posters. I’m noticing only a smaller minority of TLs here seem to be going with Grant, hitherto (or maybe I’m imagining things haha). Just intriguing. Am I missing something? Any reason other than cost? Imo he’s probably going to be the clear no.1 hooker; a set & forget. Good to see variety though.
Most popular combo is Harry and Brandon . Cookie at 3% is strange
A lot of mid /cheap options like Boyd Clark Verrils Hodgo/Stone Luke Kenny atm but i reckon most go Grant /Smith by TLT
Like the Cleary – Walker halves combo. Personally, I’d be playing Schuster at 5/8 (don’t think I.Katoa unseats Milf or O’Sullivan to start with). Also prefer Kenny to Luke and think you need another 2RF and FRF. Good luck!
So
TU: A – Boyd, Munster and Holmes
V’s
TD B – Hynes, To’o and Katoa
B for mine.
I think it could be argued that Boyd may be a play at Hooker (instead of Cheese) but as a 2nd half I don’t think he measures up. Hynes is a SC unicorn. If Munster starts at FB I would look at an alternative way to save the money to get him.
If Munster is at fullback I think most people will be trying to get him into their teams. I was probably leaning B anyway, as I didn’t like having to play Boyd in Round 3, whereas Burton and Schuster are hopefully good enough to get good points between them
Agree…. also just make sure you have cover for To’o and Garner with the bye and 3 panthers out as pointed out earlier by COG. I like Val over Drinky to sort that issue but I am happy to run Turbo as 2nd FB.
He is always a gamble. I think the draw/round 2 Bye for him is the bigger issue. He is heavily discounted this year.
I had toyed with the idea of getting Manu and playing CNK as 2nd FB for 3 rounds with a plan to go Manu to Turbo (or other) R4 if he shapes up… but I think I will probably just start with Turbo.
If Munster is named to play fullback I would be all over your setup for option A.
If not I’d be on Option B

Welcome back everyone.
First team for the year, here we go:
What do you guys think of Walsh over Turbo for early rounds. I’m worried turbo won’t score great coming back from injury or play forts two rounds and also having to vs dogs, bye, Parra and south’s.
Walsh on the other hand May make some Money early. He does have Penrith, nth qld, St George and dolphins. I was thinking i could upgrade to turbo later depending on his form.
I am thinking the same with Turbo, my thoughts atm are to run with Miller ( Knights have a very easy draw to start with ) if Turbo is looking good I will trade him in RD4 and if Miller is killing it I will move him into my CTR, if not he becomes Turbo. Just got to hope Miller starts well.

Thumbs down for me, WH, however I’m curious about Bateman too. Not much talk on the site about him.
Just after some thoughts on Savage as a 2nd FB?
PODish and probably a little under-priced. I assume he has bulked up in the off-season (got overpowered in defence a few times last season). His position seems fairly safe with CNK gone. Personally, I’m going with 2 guns at FLB.
He’s in my team, with enough left over in case I have to trade up for Turbo R4
Seems like a bit of money to be holding for that long. Unrealistic IMO
Had to adjust a few drafts considering I feature at least 1 from every team and no more than 2 players from the same team to start the season. Rip & tear SC peeps!
Remaining: 10K
Koroisau, Cheese
Tofu, Welch, Hetho, nuff
Bateman, Gilbert, Garner, Katoa, Hopgood, Mooney
Cleary, Hynes
Burton, Schuster
Val, CNK, Thompson, Dunster, Sloan, Alamoti, Te Whare
Turbo, Drinkwater
Nice overall balance IMO. I only have question marks over Welch (back from serious Achillles injury) and Gilbert (does he start?). Also, Loiera might be better than Katoa (TLT will reveal pecking order).
Gilbert will definitely start from all accounts, in 2rf
I hope so (I’ve pencilled him into my FRF).
What about Kenny brom and kaufusi?
how many minutes will api get if simpkins on the bench?
Anybody looking at having more expensive NPR 18-25 squad members than previous years because of the byes?
I still prefer cheapies or low-mids (preferably playing each week). Your Top 17 generates the points.
I’m looking to avoid byes in the top 17 more than anything.
I think if you do that too much you could miss out on the best pointscorers
My first serious attempt.
Cheese, Kenny.
Taps, Welch, Kerr, Pele.
Koala, D.Fifita, Olak, Webb, Howarth, V.Fifita.
Cleary, I. Katoa.
D.Brown, Shoey.
Val, Mulitalo, Cobbo, Aitken, Alamoti, V.Te Whare, Hodgson.
Turbo, Savage.
Any thoughts please.
Leaves me with 28k. ITB.

Great info, DCE. Good luck to you as well.
Good to see a great mix of teams in here…I definitely expected more teams to look overall the same…
Agreed. There are a few different schools of thought this year. It’s great.
What do you guys think. Any changes or concerns:
Grant/Smith
Tapine, Uto, Moale, Pele
Crichton, Garner, Kotoa, Hop, Stone, Blore
Cleary/Hynes
Munster/Schuster
Naden, I.Thompson, Tabuali fidow, Talau, Dunster, Alamoti, Khan-Pereira
Teddy/Turbo
Not sure if i should go cheaper with Munster and Grant and maybe get Burton and Kourisau and would free up some cash then

Completely agree re the fullbacks available in CTW – currently running with CNK only from that list.
Fair points re the cheapies also. I think regardless of round 1 TLT, pick Alomoti. He will play even if not round 1
I’m ok with playing CNK and HTF.

Perham (if he gets the FLB gig) and RSmith are two others to consider.
Perham is going to be a smoky cheapie if he is confirmed starting fullback for the dogs.
Hi Dunners
Perham is 6th most owned ahead of To’o Sualli
No longer a smokie more a firie

First crack
Api- Luke
Gilbert, Welch – Moroea, I Fau
Murray, Ola, Hopgood – Schuster, Howarth, Geyer
Cleary – S Walker
Douehi – Katoa
To’o, Suailli, Hammer, Perham – S Russell, Khan, B Hodgson
Teddy – Latrell.
I feel like there are too many NPR’s and bit thin on the FRF. A lot rides on some TLT calls.
Like the Cleary – Walker halves combo. Personally, I’d be playing Schuster at 5/8 (don’t think I.Katoa unseats Milf or O’Sullivan to start with). Also prefer Kenny to Luke and think you need another 2RF and FRF. Good luck!
The only relevant Half/5/8 is Hastings
If you couple him with Katoa you would cover Cleary/Dui on byes and injury/resting
Will Hastings be kicking goals for Knights, CoG? – he’s not particularly cheap at $546K.
Dont know. yeah the mid price thing is worrying but offset to some degree by Katoa’s bottom price.
V1 for the year, please review
Mahoney (Luke)
Tapine NAS (Hetho Pele)
Murray Tohu Hopgood (Shoe stone Condon)
Cleary (katoa)
Munster (metcalf)
Garrick Marzhew CNK Isaako (Perham Russell TeWhare)
Teddy (ponga)
I dont think you will have a back up 6 or 7 mate. Panthers bye in round 3 you wouldnt have a back up?
What are your thoughts on Metcalf, is he looking likely for a spot in the warrior 13 to start round 1 ?
I have been playing around for a bit and I am at a fork in the road with two options for teams
Option A:
Grant/Smith
Cotter/Welch/Moale/Pele
Fifita/Garner/Hopgood/Schuster/Stone/Blore
Cleary/Boyd
Munster/Burton
Holmes/HTB/CNK/Dunster/Alamoti/Khan/Howarth
Teddy/Drinky
$0 itb
Option B:
Grant/Smith
Cotter/Welch/Moale/Pele
Fifita/Garner/Katoa/Hopgood/Stone/Blore
Cleary/Hynes
Burton/Schuster
To’o/HTB/CNK/Dunster/Alamoti/Khan/Howarth
Teddy/Drinky
$19k itb
All advice welcome
Prefer Option B.

Miller is way overpriced. Have a look at the teams he played last year to rack up the SC points. All the bottom of the barrel teams.
I’d rather not have the 120 that Walsh is capable of, than not have the 220 Turbo is capable of
is j howarth likely to play for storm early in season?
No signs atm. I’d imagine he might get blooded with minimum minutes role sometime this season. Dpp is handy for trading .
