Pimp My Team

As we welcome in the new year with champagne, fireworks and the possibility of keyrings, it’s time for us to start tinkering with our 2019 SuperCoach sides.

Thankfully, the team at News Ltd have come to the party this year and opened up the Team Planner (for those with a SuperCoach Gold subscription) early so we have a great asset to start pulling together our respective squads. Just log into the official SuperCoach and as long as you have a subscription it will be available for you enjoy.

This post is designed for you to share your squad of the day / hour and seek feedback. To make things tick over nicely it’s a good idea to give a bit of advice yourself, no one likes a tight ass.

Enjoy!

I’m not sure how I feel about those halves. Milford and Moylan are the epitome of rollercoasters and if SJ doesn’t kick this year then you can chuck him in there too. I reckon Morgan is a like for like selection and you can get him for about 200k less. I think you’re being a little optimistic with cartwright in your side. I’ve also seen a lot of teams with Gutho in there because he should go back to FB this year but at the same time he played a few games there last year and didn’t do too well,… Read more »

I feel all 3 halves are undervalued in their own respect and should exceed their season avg’s at least at the start, could go Milford —> Munster tho if at fullback.

Cartwright is just a 230k placeholder haha, probably won’t stay.

Gutho is also undervalued imo and likely to bounce back and plays first bye. If it’s true he loses GK he does lose appeal tho.

    Thanks for the 2c mate.

For those making the argument about starting with Cook using the same logic as always starting with Smith……..that being he’s the best hooker by a fair margin, well I understand the logic. However we have to remember that Smith never had a change in coach. Their structure was always basically the same every year in how Smith was gonna play so made it an easy gamble to spend so much on Smith to start every year. Cook is about to have a huge structural change from the way Siebold coached to the way Bennett coaches. Whether this is enough to… Read more »

For those leaning towards not starting with Cook but are getting a serious case of FOMO, leave enough cash ITB to upgrade your starting hooker to Cook before round 3 if needed.

This is a big reason I’m starting with Radley @46057

My expectations for Radley is a 50 average

I will then likely have enough options in my 2rf that I can trade 1 up to Cook through a cow showing up that we didn’t expect

This will be my back up plan lol

Excellent plan mate. Radley’s dual positioning will prove invaluable should he fulfil expectations this season.

Yep is one of the best dual position players if expectations are kept reasonable haha

It’s all about opportunity cost as well. If you spend $200k less at hooker and lose 15ppg at that position, but reinvest that $200k to bolster a weak position and gain 20ppg there, you’re still in the green. It’s all crystal ball stuff but something to keep in mind.

Guess it depends what position you’re upgrading to likely get that 20 ppg boost (i.e more likely in the CTW than say the 2RF for the opening stages of the year)

    Stilesy

It was more just a theoretical comment. Like, let’s say you settled on cheaper player x because you couldn’t afford player y. If freeing up that cash let you then upgrade player x to player y, where the difference between those player’s outputs is greater than the downgrade you made to free up the cash, then it is the best option for your team.

    If that makes sense.

Not to mention the cash that can be made by going a cheaper option which will then help when it’s time to upgrade to a gun

What are your thoughts on the seibold effect on Macca? More game play/management?

    SupercoachGodsBeNice

It’s hard to tell how the coaching change will affect Macca at this stage.

He obviously doesn’t have the speed out of dummy half as a lot of other hookers but it seemed like Bennett was very reluctant to have him running at all from there.

If he at least looks like he’s an option out of dummy half then that can open up his game a bit. He could see more TAs or LBAs

If Macca does run more from dummy half I think it opens up Milf a whole lot more and makes him even more dangerous

I think seibold if his game plan is similar to last year opens up the game for guys like jimmy, Oates, isakoo, tpj, milf a lot more. I am just wondering if Macca given more control of play making. Looking what is in front, like you said more ta, lba close to the line. A few times early last year he was forced to go himself when there was nothing on and he was able to crack the defence.

I’ve got him in my back pocket just in case all of that comes true haha

Would be nice to get a good idea of the gameplan in the trials but can’t see is getting all that much real info from them lol

Seibolds coaching style when at the bunnies…. “We’re going to do some things differently to what we’ve done in the past. We’re trying to merge the technical, physical and mental sides of the game in our training sessions and we do that through a process called tactical periodisation,” said Seibold. Tactical periodisation is a concept that will be unfamiliar to most, but a concept that has existed for quite some time in the world of professional sport. More commonly seen in soccer with coaches such as current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, more recently other codes have begun to adopt… Read more »

Good points. I just look at Cook as a player and think no way can I leave him out. He has a lifetime PPM of 0.94. He didn’t have a career year last year because he does it every year. His mins just varied when he was sharing with Farah which is no longer the case. As long as he’s wearing the 9 jumper and not starting on the bench, he ain’t going to lose enough money to warrant a trade later IMO and is C material you can use every week. Even if bones changes his game slightly, no… Read more »

Only other hooker to look at is Hodgson, but cook is number 1 .
Both have a attacking game that suits super coach.
Smith needs melbourne to score lots of tries to get his extra 16-20 points in goal kicks, and i don’t see that happening down there this year.

So just made a team with cook in it:

    Cook – Egan
    Tpj/papali – Collins/hass
    Arrow/kikau/Murray – Radley/Sorensen/host
    Morgan – Moses
    Widdop – brimson
    Nene/Hampton/capwell/dwz – lomax/hopate/sivo
    Barba – Allen

Moses could become Cleary and Hampton/dwz to another cow ctw.
Similar brimson could move to flb for Allen if channel or an eels cow named and Allen isn’t, Radley to hok reserve if Egan bench. Host or whoever likely comes up cheep in 2rf, sorenson only because likely running outside sj.

    Thoughts?

Is it legitimate to add an extra 1-2 points to forwards considering there will be an extra couple of min game time with new changes . 12 scrums a game would add an extra min . Not sure what AVG scrums per game would be though

I reckon Papa will lose minutes as will play frf with loss of frf stocks and Bateman signing from ESL
Moylan not sold on…..not sure if SJ will be good for him…plus will need time to gel with combos

I am understanding of that with papali and just have a gut feel atm, but if trials show him starting or playing prop then he won’t be in my team.

Moylan May switch yet for Milford or Allen if named to start, moving brimson back. I was just toying around with him tbh.

After mucking around with a few drafts I’ve settled on a team I’m happy to stick with until trials. Cook, Roache Taupau, TPJ, Vete, Haas Jurbo, Radley, Murray, Stimson, Sorenson, Host Morgan, Harris-Tavita Munster, Salmon Latrell, Gutho, Capewell, Xerri, Mann, Lomax, Hopoate Teddy, Barba I’ve been trying very hard to convince myself not to go with Cook, but when I look at his scores from last season I just don’t see how he is going to drastically drop in price so he is in for now. The ability to downgrade him to Smith later does give me some cash to… Read more »

Like the side, few concerns atm roaches getting more game time I think when I looked he was already getting close to 50min, if he could grab 13 that would be ideal but a wait. Also vete with storm bench kbromwich, kasiano, glasby so min will depend.

You may have to downgrade lateell to find another ctw/2rf

    But good start

Glasby is at the Knights as Prozarch mentions. Unless Gutherson gets the kicking back I wouldn’t be to keen on him. Liking your second row!

Yeah the base stats of playing at flb will hopefully make Gutho a top 10 CTW but certainly needs the kicking to be top 5. If Moses gets the kick, and control of the team he may have to come into consideration.

Luke has off season shoulder surgery and is unlikely to be 100% for round 1. Roache is in there on the basis that he starts in round 1 and possibly keeps the jersey for 4-5 weeks if Luke is eased back from the bench. I can’t see the upside that everyone else is obviously seeing with Egan so looking for an alternative, but that can change of course once we know more about round 1 teams. Glasby averaged 42 mins per game for Melbourne, he is now gone, so there are mins to be had. NRL.com has Vete in the… Read more »

And another team. HKR. Radley ( Egan ) FRF. TPJ / Jo. O ( Haas / Collins ) 2RF. Jurbo / Angus / Lolo ( Bird / Tanganoa / Host ) HLF. Johnson ( Brown-Harris-Keighran ) surely one gets a start. 5/8. Morgan ( Brimson ) CTR. Inglis / Scott / Mennings / Capewell ( Lomax / A. Hopaote / Xerri FLB. Isaako / Barba Going with strong Halves with potential to make cash. 3 gun 2RF and two solid FLB’s who should make some coin. That CTW is a concern. Inglis and Capewell I like but Scott (Curtis?) and Mennings (Michael?) are priced pretty appropriately and I don’t see any growth in either, particularly Jennings. An alternate I like better is to sub Mann ( who looks like the knights starting HOK) for Mennings and perhaps boot Scott for Isaako with Meaney from the Dogs to be a cash cow at FB.

WTH here is my plan B team if I get cold feet with Plan A

    HOK: CSmith, WEgan
    FRF: AFifita, TPangai, PHaas, EPere
2RF: JTrbojevic, VKikau, JBateman, CMurray, JStimson, VRadley
    HFB: NCleary, CHarris-Tavita
    5/8: JHughes, JSalmon
CTW: EWhitehead, JBird, KCapewell, ZLomax, BXerri, AHopoate, MSivo
    FLB: JTedesco, BBarba
    $32700 remaining

Murray if starting. Then Stimson. Then JFH. Then Su’A (Broncs forwards too stacked)
