As we welcome in the new year with champagne, fireworks and the possibility of keyrings, it’s time for us to start tinkering with our 2019 SuperCoach sides.

Thankfully, the team at News Ltd have come to the party this year and opened up the Team Planner (for those with a SuperCoach Gold subscription) early so we have a great asset to start pulling together our respective squads. Just log into the official SuperCoach and as long as you have a subscription it will be available for you enjoy.

This post is designed for you to share your squad of the day / hour and seek feedback. To make things tick over nicely it’s a good idea to give a bit of advice yourself, no one likes a tight ass.

Enjoy!

Hi all. Welcome back for another year! All of our SC Talk Leagues will be posted at 6pm QLD time (7pm NSW time) on Tuesday 22 Jan. The codes will go up and all leagues are open to all – it is a first in, first served basis. Once a league is full it won’t let you join it so move onto the next code you would like to join. Cheers

Is it legitimate to add an extra 1-2 points to forwards considering there will be an extra couple of min game time with new changes . 12 scrums a game would add an extra min . Not sure what AVG scrums per game would be though

Yes that’s reasonable I think.
Also, I suspect that if they’re aren’t as many penalties this year, there should be more SC points across the board

Just for fun made a team with cook in it, what do we think… Hok – cook – Egan Frf – tpj/papali – Collins/hass 2rf – arrow/Murray/kikau – Radley/Sorensen/host Hlf – Morgan – channel 5/8 – Widdop – brimson Ctw – nene/Hampton/bird/capwell – lomax/hopate/sivio Flb – barba – Moylan Looking at some stats: Papali from his starts at 13 last year had an av of 70 in 68min Tpj 58av 3 starts at 13 56min av Arrow games he played 60min + 80av Kikau games he started on the edge, 63av Murray from starts at 13 62 av Radley starts… Read more »

I reckon Papa will lose minutes as will play frf with loss of frf stocks and Bateman signing from ESL
Moylan not sold on…..not sure if SJ will be good for him…plus will need time to gel with combos

I am understanding of that with papali and just have a gut feel atm, but if trials show him starting or playing prop then he won’t be in my team.

Moylan May switch yet for Milford or Allen if named to start, moving brimson back. I was just toying around with him tbh.

After mucking around with a few drafts I’ve settled on a team I’m happy to stick with until trials. Cook, Roache Taupau, TPJ, Vete, Haas Jurbo, Radley, Murray, Stimson, Sorenson, Host Morgan, Harris-Tavita Munster, Salmon Latrell, Gutho, Capewell, Xerri, Mann, Lomax, Hopoate Teddy, Barba I’ve been trying very hard to convince myself not to go with Cook, but when I look at his scores from last season I just don’t see how he is going to drastically drop in price so he is in for now. The ability to downgrade him to Smith later does give me some cash to… Read more »

Like the side, few concerns atm roaches getting more game time I think when I looked he was already getting close to 50min, if he could grab 13 that would be ideal but a wait. Also vete with storm bench kbromwich, kasiano, glasby so min will depend.

You may have to downgrade lateell to find another ctw/2rf

But good start

Glasby is at the Knights as Prozarch mentions. Unless Gutherson gets the kicking back I wouldn’t be to keen on him. Liking your second row!

Yeah the base stats of playing at flb will hopefully make Gutho a top 10 CTW but certainly needs the kicking to be top 5. If Moses gets the kick, and control of the team he may have to come into consideration.

Luke has off season shoulder surgery and is unlikely to be 100% for round 1. Roache is in there on the basis that he starts in round 1 and possibly keeps the jersey for 4-5 weeks if Luke is eased back from the bench. I can’t see the upside that everyone else is obviously seeing with Egan so looking for an alternative, but that can change of course once we know more about round 1 teams. Glasby averaged 42 mins per game for Melbourne, he is now gone, so there are mins to be had. NRL.com has Vete in the… Read more »

And another team. HKR. Radley ( Egan ) FRF. TPJ / Jo. O ( Haas / Collins ) 2RF. Jurbo / Angus / Lolo ( Bird / Tanganoa / Host ) HLF. Johnson ( Brown-Harris-Keighran ) surely one gets a start. 5/8. Morgan ( Brimson ) CTR. Inglis / Scott / Mennings / Capewell ( Lomax / A. Hopaote / Xerri FLB. Isaako / Barba Going with strong Halves with potential to make cash. 3 gun 2RF and two solid FLB’s who should make some coin. Having 3 Broncos FRF could be a problem but they could come out firing.… Read more »

That CTW is a concern. Inglis and Capewell I like but Scott (Curtis?) and Mennings (Michael?) are priced pretty appropriately and I don’t see any growth in either, particularly Jennings. An alternate I like better is to sub Mann ( who looks like the knights starting HOK) for Mennings and perhaps boot Scott for Isaako with Meaney from the Dogs to be a cash cow at FB.

I need a final 2RF. Who do you choose out of Su’A, Stimson, JFH, and Murray! All look very good value.

Murray if starting. Then Stimson. Then JFH. Then Su’A (Broncs forwards too stacked)

Is it crazy to go all out DPP for your CTW? So it would be Lomax (will be in everybody’s CTW) Whitehead /Capewell/ Bird x3 cheapies.

carlosthedwarf

Depending on where the other cheapies are and Bird is named it could be the best option. If there’s sufficient rookies in CTW I wouldn’t want more than two of them, especially given Bird’s last 18 months.

The only thing going for Bird is he’ll have Oates and Milf for company.

CTW is generally the position to get a bit crazy, its the hardest position to get consistent scorers so you may as well go for it. At least with duals you get a bit of flexibility if something goes wrong. Having said that I think you need at least a couple of set and forget guns in that position to start the year.

Who plays 80 in the Broncs backrow? I assume TPJ will struggle, and Gillett will need some game time surely.

TurkeySnow

I would stay clear of broncos back row, if syua, gillet, glen and dfafita all named to play. I can’t see them all being named each week and only hass on the bench as the main prop rotation. Gillet I feel will be given small game time until 100% and tpj about 60min

Hi all, I considered trying something different to start this season. Instead of second-guessing what is happening with players at a variety of clubs, I thought I’d concentrate on players of whom I have first-hand knowledge. Accordingly, I came up with the following team. I suspect that it will require some tweaking before kick-off but I would appreciate any feedback. Hooker: Egan; Katoa. FRF: RCG; Tamou; Leota; Hetherington. 2 RF: Kikau; Yeo; JFH; Ellis; Waddell; Sele. HB: Cleary; Luai. 5/8: Maloney; T May. CTW: DWZ; W Blake; Whare; Mansour; MWZ; Phillips; Fuimaono. FB: Edwards; C Aekins. As I said, not… Read more »

Every year we dream but I think we’re a chance this year. I expect Roosters to be there again and I’m expecting Broncos to be the big improvers. Time will tell…

Roosters will be the bench mark again but year after year it’s proven impossible to back up

If Panthers stay fit they’ll be hard to beat at the business end

Broncos 1-2 years away I think

No problem with having a lot of players from your favourite team! (100% may be 75% too much for me though)

No space for Carty in this lineup?

We will all be interested in your input on Egan come Rd 1 TLT. If he gets starting over Katoa I think he will be top 10 owned.

I really think he’s something special. Strong defence but he’s quick and reads the game exceptionally well. I have my fingers crossed… wink
In reality, I’ll have Cleary and Kikau in my side at this stage. Good football doesn’t always translate into good Supercoach (eg JFH).

TurkeySnow

In all honesty what about Leota?

@watson I am finding it hard to leave Cleary out atm, think he will find another level under his father, and he started great last year for me two 80pt games unfortunately getting injured after that. But kikau as well is in my side and fingers crossed for Egan.

Was looking at JFH without mez an chn but even when given bigger min didn’t improve output much, like you said sometimes good footy doesn’t translate to sc.

I looked at Cleary, and can’t leave him out either

Kikau I loved last year, but see him as fully priced now

Also considering Mansour – he seems to be off the radar on here for some early drafts

Alright Manly fans

With Taupau averaging 51 mins last year and AFB averaging 48 what are the chances Paseka is worth a shot as a cheapie FRF on the bench priced at 196k to be a bit of a slow burn cow?

thatsmyteam

he was going that way last year then hurt his knee and was out.

i think he could be a slow burn. he did have good PPM when on field tho and at stages was getting 30 mins

Having just resigned, one of few Manly players contracted beyond this year, surely they have plans for him? AFB and Taupau will dominate minutes but surely he will increase his?

SupercoachGodsBeNice

That’s my thinking

Has the potential for a 10 point increase per game if he’s given the mins

May not seem pike much but would be good for a slow burn

I am thinking he will be a main beneficiary of lane leaving as well.
