As we welcome in the new year with champagne, fireworks and the possibility of keyrings, it’s time for us to start tinkering with our 2019 SuperCoach sides.

Thankfully, the team at News Ltd have come to the party this year and opened up the Team Planner (for those with a SuperCoach Gold subscription) early so we have a great asset to start pulling together our respective squads. Just log into the official SuperCoach and as long as you have a subscription it will be available for you enjoy.

This post is designed for you to share your squad of the day / hour and seek feedback. To make things tick over nicely it’s a good idea to give a bit of advice yourself, no one likes a tight ass.

Enjoy!

Hi all. Welcome back for another year! All of our SC Talk Leagues will be posted at 6pm QLD time (7pm NSW time) on Tuesday 22 Jan. The codes will go up and all leagues are open to all – it is a first in, first served basis. Once a league is full it won’t let you join it so move onto the next code you would like to join. Cheers

Welcome back everybody! Good luck, and please remember we really have no idea if any team make up. Your guess is as good as mine! I would like to start with the theory of trying to get Ponga, Tommy T and Teddy into a competitive team. Is it a goer or are you better off going for for more gun 2RF instead?

Pretty good way to do it. I just think SJ at half will score you more points than Ponga at 5/8.

I feel like Tommy Turbo is overpriced to start the year. Plus add the unknown of what Des will bring and he becomes a little less exciting.

I reckon I’ll be starting with Teddy and Barba to be honest and look to increase the 2rf points.

There’s handful of players you rely on each year to come down in price and Turbo will be one of those for mine. His brother may become James Graham Mk II in attack with consistent ball playing restricting hit ups/TB’s/offloads?

like the Macca/Katoa although hopefully Egan gets the nod first.

TPJ and Papali for me I think may be my first two frf – then Napa/Hass also looking at guys like Uele/Paseka

Gillet I am concerned by atm, Arrow surely gets 60min +, I like Murray/Radley/Stimson/JFH even feel Kikau could have another great year.

Whitehead/Bird/Capwell/Peach all interesting picking the right one will be the thing.

Munster if he gets flb, but I can’t go past Barba atm.

Swap Gillett for Fitzy and I think we’ll be good.

Hello Everyone.

Welcome back. Thoughts on this early draft?? Perhaps a touch unrealistic as it is Cheapie pending but I do like the starting 17.

Macca, (Woodford)
TPJ, Sutton, Napa, (Haas)
Jurbo, Arrow, Murray, Stimson, (Britt, Milne)
Cleary, (Smith)
Ponga, Morgan
Fonua, Gutho, Capewell, Lomax,
(Hopoate, Sivo, Xerri)
Teddy, Turbo

Morgan is a luxury atm he will probably be cut so the cheapies can be upgraded. Thoughts on the rest??

Other than Woolford not likely to play it’s pretty good. I think you need two starting HOK, far too many points to miss there.

Ok thanks for the feedback, Yeah I can cut Morgan for another cheapie half and upgrade Woolford.

Well here’s my rig:

Radley Brailey
TPJ Sutton Haas cow
Arrow Kikau Fitz Murray Stimson cow
Cleary cow
Ponga Milford
Capewell Mansour Whitehead Gutho X3 cow
Barba Brimson

Risk not going Ted and Turbo but I think they’re maxed priced and don’t play first bye, which is a focus.

120k bank.

Cant believe I didnt put Fitzy in my 1st draft. Was thinking of pitting him in all pre-season last year and then talked myself out of it at the last moment. Regretted it all year.

We always say learn from our mistakes last year I started strong but burned trades hard trying to be bye strong and it caused a free fall!!

I really want to add Holland as it was a plan to have him but I keep seeming to dump him.

Re Fitz Defibrillator, a lot of home games early and I really rate his rounds 3-10 draw.

That is a very good point. Those with byes in round 16 should be a priority? Is it also important to have lots of unlikely Origin players ie the Pommie contingent? I suppose it’s never too early to plan for the first bye.

@Brewster whats the word with Brailey? Segy gone? surely Brailey wont see 80min?

I like TPJ in FRF, Sutton Isn’t he an English import? Uncertain on him atm.
I like the idea of Arrow,Kikau,Fitz and even liking to Lane all attacking 2rf, and should have bigger years.
Murray as well in the above.
I am leaning towards Cleary.
Milf I hope seibs can do something with him…
Capwell/Whitehead/Birid I am liking becauze of duals
Gutho unsure yet, thinking Nene, Brenko, Nofo could be decent
Barba and a cheapie for me Too

Hey TS.
Brailey is Blake, the little brother. He and Flanno Jnr are fighting for the 17. He’s just a number at the moment.
More likely will be Egan, Liddle or even Mahoney.
My mates a grounds keeper at Penrith Stadium, he reckons Egan is training in the 9, maybe Watson could confirm?

Feldt and Holland are 2 names I’d really like in the centres.

Gutho isn’t locked to my side, I just think taking the 2 egos out if Parra we could see the electric Gutho of 2017.

Hi Brewster,
As I’ve said before I would love to see Egan get first nibs at the hooker spot. I think he could be special. He has been training in 9 but Sione has been injured. Niggling calf injury he picked up early in pre-season that recurred just before Christmas. He should be right very soon then we might get a better idea on what the coach is thinking.

Hooker ;Holland (Seriously undervalued and now the go-to man in a side almost devoid of game breakers) Egan (Watson has big wraps on him and that’s good enough for me) FRF ; Jo O, Collins, Vete and Haas. (Gone for guys whose price will appreciate.) 2RF ; Jurbo, Difita, Radley, Stimson, Kamik and Flegler. Hlf ; Cleary, Morgan. (Not prepared to stint here) 5/8 ; Ponga, Munster.(Not prepared to stint here) CTW ;Mansour, Manu, Capewell, Mann, Lomax, Eisenhuth, Hopoate.A. F/B ; Teddy & Turbo. (From the get go) K$51.5 ITB. Gives me a choice of about 8 Captains depending on… Read more »

Never thought of Holland due to being scarred from a couple of years ago but definitely someone Ill think about.Havent really heard of Egan. Some homework is in line for him.

The 2 mid/cheapie Hooker strategy worked for quite a few last year. Certainly worth considering this year.

Any chance Holland gets the goal kicking off Martin. There seems to a bit love for Harper? Is he a threat to Holland’s spot?

At the percentage Martin kicks at it would be a very brave coach to take the kicking off him lol

That Dogs 2RF + two more on the bench is very hard to pick. I assume Elliott is the weakest, but will Martin lose any playing time?

Yea it’s hard to say what happens with Martin but I’d be pretty confident in saying that he’ll be overpriced to start the year with all the options in the 2nd row

Ok time to get a discussion going…… Logic says we start with Teddy, Turbo and Ponga from the start now that we have the ability to choose all 3 However on looking further there’s a serious case that can be made to not starting with 1, 2 or even all 3 and taking a huge calculated gamble 2rf is a position that’s completely stacked with guns and potential guns who are underpriced and could prove serious value. Could potentially go 6 deep there with no problems at all FB there’s some undervalued potential gold there also and at a saving… Read more »

Well mate, I am personally starting with 1 – Ponga. Presuming he plays 5/8 it’s a risk, but the kids a freak I’m sure will grow into it. I’m going 2 mid at FB with a goal of cash generation getting me Ted and Tom when they start purring, whilst maintaining my bye numbers for the initial 3rd of the season. Honestly there’s so many guys you could punt on in the 350-500k bracket. Sadly most bar Joe O aren’t dual. That could become a factor. My lineup is 17 strong players so my goal is to use the right… Read more »

Dont think I will start with either of the 3 FLB guns nor even Cook or CS9. Reckon all 3 will drop in price based on their averages. Ponga is probably in a new position (and we saw how going to 5/8th effected Munster), Turbo (and Cook) has a new coach and Teddy was underwhelming for me last year. Munster, if he gets Billys spot, for me or Barba with Meaney as a cheapie. 2RF is loaded. I suffered with a lack of flexibility last year due to hardly any 2RF/CTW dpps. As such Im pretty certain in having Whitehead,… Read more »

Also I think we’re certainly going to get a cow option for 5/8 and HB if we want to take it.
Meaney and Allen will be on offer at FB potentially.
Ponga kicking is the thing holding me onto him.

As Brewster said we have the ability to have a strong 17 to start the season and can then rely on our cows to build the top 17-19 into a killer squad My current side is Radley, Egan TPJ, Sutton, Napa, Haas Arrow, Fitzy, Kikau, Murray, Gillett, Stimson Cleary, Brown Milford, Carty Mansour, Whitehead, Gutho, Capewell, Lomax, A Hoppa, M Harper Moylan, Barba 25k left Now I don’t expect Carty to be in my squad come Rd 1 but I’ll just work around his price for now. Currently Napa and Carty are players who are outside my 17 yet I… Read more »

I have read Sutton in a few teams now, had to go in to SuperCoach to view who was even talking about. What is the thinking behind his early popular selection? English – no origin? Low price – undervalue? Raiders pack looking like big minutes for him?

Avg Tackles 24
Avg Missed 1.4
Avg Tackle Breaks 0.9
Avg Hit Ups 13
Avg Meters 90
Avg Gain 6.8

Linbreaks 2

Errors 6

Primarily off the bench I think. 40-50mins

Likely starting for Raiders and with their lack of depth up front hopefully he can manage a 50 average

Also able to hold for the first bye which will be handy

Talk from Watson on here that he’s a good chance for the #9 jersey

I like having him there just because I can work around his price and then hopefully he can get that starting spot

I just can’t see the value in running 2 hookers especially to start the season

I’ll happily have Egan or Blayke Brayley if he gets a role as a slow burn cow there

Parra will provide us Brown so he’s straight in at HB, perhaps The Warriors too, but who is the 5/8 cow? Surely not Carty?

I’ve only got Teddy, he won’t start as slow as he did last year. Ponga playing FB is a must, not sure about 5/8 in round 1 though. Not much love for SJ at present. Will he get DPP if named at 5/8 for the Sharks?

MyYfH8sSC

Who gets you more points? SJ at half, or Ponga at 5/8. Ponga at FB, behind a great pack, surely is the best of the three.

Ponga reportedly starting at 5/8, so will be competing with Pearce for the attacking options.

This is my latest version. Feel free to provide any feedback.

Hodgson McInnes
Sutton Napa Haas 168k
Fitzy Kikau TPJ Murray Stimson 168k
Cleary 168k
Munster Salmon
Gutho Mansour Capewell Lomax (3x168k)
Turbo Teddy

Still have 43.2k ITB to upgrade any 168k cows if necessary. If we have a glut of cheap cows in a particular position then things will change obviously. Have to follow the money train wink

SupercoachGodsBeNice

Interesting seeing you go Hodgson and McInnes at hooker…….what’s the reasoning behind it?

Flasher

Hooker and FB have the least flexibility to cover any injuries etc, so have gone with a gun backup just in case. Hodgson and McInnes will cover both byes, which means I won’t have to touch them all year hopefully. Both should avg around 60, and McInnes is a handy reserve to have each week I think.

SupercoachGodsBeNice

Fair reason to go that way and the cover for both byes without using a trade is handy

If someone like Egan comes along it will change things though. Can’t overlook a good cow no matter where they play.
