JT’s Teams Analysis – Round 5

It’s the Nicho week in Round 5, with some celebrating a massive win last week and others scrambling to afford him. Crazy to think he’s got the bye next week and is this urgent a trade-in! Elsewhere there’s a host of injuries that have opened up spots, and a few others on the buy list to consider.

*To Note: All times listed are based on Queensland time.

This Weeks Bye Team/s

Gold Coast Titans

SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS PARRAMATTA EELS

Thursday, 7.00pm, Allianz Stadium, Sydney

Sydney Roosters

1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Joseph Suaalii 4. Drew Hutchison 5. Jaxson Paulo 6. Luke Keary 7. Sam Walker 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 9. Brandon Smith 10. Lindsay Collins 11. Egan Butcher 12. Nat Butcher 13. Victor Radley

Bench: 14. Jake Turpin 15. Naufahu Whyte 16. Corey Allan 17. Fletcher Baker

Reserves: 18. Ben Thomas 19. Junior Pauga 20. Sandon Smith 21. Siua Wong 22. Elie El-Zakham

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Joey Manu misses the game through suspension, bringing in Drew Hutchison ($244.3k – 5/8 / 2RF – BE 52) to play the centre role. More runs for Teddy now likely?

Speaking of, James Tedesco ($761.3k – FLB – BE 114) has dropped to just 19% ownership after a slow start by his standards this season, but comes up against a Parramatta side conceding 78PPG to fullbacks and who he has a career average of 80PPG against. However, his recent run of scores against them over the last three matches where he is averaging just 58PPG suggests it will take a massive push against formlines to ensure he stops his freefall in price. Maybe the cavalry returning in the forward pack will go some way to helping, given his best game of the season was when JWH was back in R3.

Who’d have thought after three games that Jaxson Paulo ($526.1k – CTW – BE – 34) would be comfortably the highest averaging Rooster at 73PPG?

Brandon Smith ($441.4k – HOK – BE 69) moves back to the starting 9 role after being benched in Round 3 and has now had a week to heal up. The 15% who still own him are happy about that I guess.

Parramatta Eels

1. Clinton Gutherson 2. Maika Sivo 3. Viliami Penisini 4. Waqa Blake 5. Bailey Simonsson 6. Dylan Brown 7. Mitchell Moses 8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 9. Josh Hodgson 10. Wiremu Greig 11. Bryce Cartwright 12. Ryan Matterson 13. Jโ€™maine Hopgood

Bench: 14. Matt Doorey 15. Brendan Hands 16. Jack Murchie 17. Makahesi Makatoa

Reserves: 18. Jakob Arthur 19 Jirah Momoisea 20. Ofahiki Ogden 21. Toni Mataele 22. Haze Dunster

JT’s Teams Analysis: Junior Paulo will be missing for two matches through suspension so their forward stocks take a hit, with Wiremu Greig ($217.8k – FRF – BE 34) given a chance to start in his absence. After playing 80 minutes last round, it’s likely Ryan Matterson ($696.7k – 2RF – BE 70) will play the same mixed role again here. He was pushed to the middle last week due to J’maine Hopgood’s ($548.6k – 2RF – BE 43) HIA, and might shift there again to cover the weakened forward pack. That should allow Matt Doorey ($319.8k – 2RF – BE 11) some time on the park on the edge to make up some more price rises.

The rotation of Brendan Hands ($200.8k – HOK – BE – 15) to come and relieve Josh Hodgson ($413.6k – HOK – BE 39) as he did last round for 30 minutes looks set to continue. Not sure whether that split in minutes will be an accurate reflection moving forward, but at bargain basement, a 25-30 minute hooker with attacking upside means Hands provides a healthier alternative to Soni Luke.

I still can’t believe I never got on Bryce Cartwright ($387.5k – 2RF – BE 1). No one’s responding to the noise complaints.

CANBERRA RAIDERS VS PENRITH PANTHERS

Friday, 5.00pm, GIO Stadium, Canberra

Canberra Raiders

1. Sebastian Kris 2. Albert Hopoate 3. Matthew Timoko 4. Harley Smith-Shields 5. Jordan Rapana 6. Matt Frawley 7. Jamal Fogarty 8. Josh Papaliโ€™i 9. Zac Woolford 10. Joseph Tapine 11. Hudson Young 12. Elliott Whitehead 13. Corey Harawira-Naera

Bench: 14. Tom Starling 15. Emre Guler 16. Pasami Saulo 17. Corey Horsburgh

Reserves: 18. Brad Schneider 19. James Schiller 20. Peter Hola 21. Trey Mooney 22. Jarrod Croker

JT’s Teams Analysis: Jamal Fogarty ($620k – HFB – BE 81) returns to the side after missing last week through illness, with a makeshift pairing with Matt Frawley ($263.1k – 5/8 / HFB – BE 6) on the cards for a fortnight through Wighton’s suspension. Jordan Rapana ($526.1k – CTW – BE 90) making his return from suspension should go a small way into firming up the edge defence that has been leaking so many points lately.

Zac Woolford ($316.4k – HOK – BE 44) has again been named to start but just like last week and last year, he’ll probably be switched on game day with Tom Starling ($536.8k – HOK – BE 29). Starling got 55 minutes last week in a sign he’ll be the more favoured option, but is too high a price to warrant a thought given the time-share arrangement.

Josh Papali’i ($667.8k – FRF – BE 71) is named to start after being eased in off the bench last week. His return last week didn’t really do much to the minutes of the forwards around him, but his return certainly looks like slowing down Pasami Saulo ($305.1k – 2RF / FRF – BE 26) who has made around $60k in value in his absence. Joe Tapine ($667.8k – 2RF / FRF – BE 71) continues to chug along without much of the offloading or busting he racked up last year, but his minutes have been slowly building and should continue here given Penrith’s massive pack will need to be stepped up to.

Hudson Young ($605.2k – 2RF – BE 37) is building now after a try-assisted 79 last week backing up from a 66 the week before, but like everyone else in this Raiders side, is proving too hard to predict each week.

Penrith Panthers

1. Dylan Edwards 2. Sunia Turuva 3. Izack Tago 4. Stephen Crichton 5. Brian Toโ€™o 6. Jarome Luai 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Moses Leota 9. Mitch Kenny 10. James Fisher-Harris 11. Scott Sorensen 12. Zac Hosking 13. Isaah Yeo

Bench: 14. Tyrone Peachey 15. Lindsay Smith 16. Spencer Leniu 17. Jaeman Salmon

Reserves: 18 Matt Eisenhuth 19 Jack Cogger 20 Chris Smith 21 Kurt Falls 22 Tom Jenkins

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Zac Hosking ($458.8k – 2RF – BE – 23) had an absolutely massive game on the park and in SuperCoach in Liam Martin’s absence last week and gets rewarded with another starting spot here. Luke Garner ($423.9k – 2RF – BE 46) is out of the side with a hamstring strain, opening the door massively for Hosking to make this spot his own. Garner will likely be punted out of many SuperCoach sides in the process. At a huge negative breakeven and plenty of attacking upside, Hosking should remain worthy of thought. Between Martin eventually returning and Jaeman Salmon ($264.4k – 2RF / CTW – BE 20) on the bench and pinching minutes off the starters, there is an element of risk there. But it has to be said that Hosking’s effort last week to play the full game showed a lot better signs than they’ve been getting out of Garner.

Scott Sorensen ($466.5k – 2RF – BE 56) takes the other second row spot up. Sorensen has rarely put a full game together, spending most of his time through the middle, so will be the more likely of the two to be rotated this week.

Soni Luke misses the game through the mandatory 11-day standown policy for category 1 head knocks. Tyrone Peachey ($289k – 2RF – BE 29) will split the hooking duties with starter Mitch Kenny ($337.6k – HOK – BE 22).

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS VS MELBOURNE STORM

Friday, 7.05pm, ANZ Stadium, Sydney

South Sydney Rabbitohs

1. Latrell Mitchell 2. Alex Johnston 3. Isaiah Tass 4. Campbell Graham 5. Izaac Tuโ€™itupou Thompson 6. Cody Walker 7. Lachlan Ilias 8. Daniel Suluka-Fifita 9. Damien Cook 10. Thomas Burgess 11. Keaon Koloamatangi 12. Jacob Host 13. Cameron Murray

Bench: 14. Jed Cartwright 15. Michael Chee Kam 16. Davvy Moale 17. Hame Sele

Reserves: 18. Blake Taaffe 19. Dean Hawkins 20. Ben Lovett 21. Taane Milne 22. Tallis Duncan

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Keaon Koloamatangi ($746.3k – 2RF – BE 49) was pushed into the middle last week through the Bunnies’ injury crisis but should move back to the edge with Hame Sele returning to the side on the bench after missing time for a head knock. The move to the middle might have meant the usual attacking stats dropped a bit with just a couple of busts, but the workrate was immense, with 35 hitup points easily his best of the season. A few more games there throughout the year and the dual positioning should come his way which would be a massive boost to his SuperCoach value.

Despite the lack of options at front row, Davvy Moale ($249.1k – FRF – BE 30) remains the forgotten man with minimal minutes and may find himself out of the side shortly. He’s not an urgent sell given his minimal value but we’d love a try before he goes. Until Jai Arrow’s name reappears on the team sheet, Michael Chee-Kam ($353.1k – 2RF / CTW – BE 6) looks destined to keep picking up value with a low breakeven even if he’s finally off the bench here as named. Just keeps finding his way into the starting side though. Jacob Host ($295.9k – 2RF – BE 39) is surprisingly named to start over him – Host played just the 27 minutes there last week in a weird rotation.

Cam Murray ($666.9k – 2RF – BE 80) has now lost $82k in value and it’s hard to get a read on his minutes. With the pack still missing a lot of regulars, you would think it’s Murray to step up but a conservative, tackle-reliant game from him means his attacking stats have dried up. Just one offload and three busts all year shows just how often he’s playing link man rather than hitup man. On average, Murray is passing the ball almost 70% of the time he receives it, compared to a guy like Pat Carrigan who plays in the same lock role, at the same price, who is passing just 39% of the time. This is the Jurbo effect – except Murray usually offsets it by the occasional explosive run or offload that leads to a break or a try. Tremendous NRL player and does a job for his team – it’s just badly affecting his SuperCoach output.

Alex Johnston ($629.3k – CTW – BE 93) has been named to play but suffered a cork last week. Would open the door for either Taaffe or Milne to come into the side if he’s scratched as they’re both on the extended reserves.

Melbourne Storm

1. Nick Meaney 2. William Warbrick 3. Reimis Smith 4. Justin Olam 5. Xavier Coates 6. Cameron Munster 7. Jonah Pezet 8. Tui Kamikamica 9. Harry Grant 10. Christian Welch 11. Trent Loiero 12. Eliesa Katoa 13. Josh King

Bench: 14. Bronson Garlick 15. Alec MacDonald 16. Tariq Sims 17. Tom Eisenhuth

Reserves: 18. Grant Anderson 19 Tyran Wishart 20.Jordan Grant 21.George Jennings 22 Jack Howarth

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Jonah Pezet ($200.8k – HFB – BE – 82) will remain the halfback this week, standing to make a massive price rise after a couple of good games since making his debut including last week’s start at half. He’ll be bumped back to the bench for Jahrome Hughes by next week though, but if you want a quick cash grab to make the likes of Hynes more affordable, this could be an easy one here. With any luck, he could find himself in the utility role, with Craig Bellamy punting the usual utility Tyran Wishart to the extended reserves after only playing 6 minutes last week.

The only other change is Tom Eisenhuth into the bench, with the Storm having some semblance of settledness in their forwards now with Tariq Sims ($470.4k – 2RF – BE 66) continuing to come off the bench and through the middle. I thought it might have meant bad news for Josh King ($511.4k – 2RF – BE 45) but King is nudging 70 minutes a game so far this year including an 80-minute effort in Round 1. With no NAS until around R10, there should continue to be plenty of minutes for him to work through if you’re looking for a reliable-enough option in your 2RF, if you ignore the heat-affected 34 he scored on the Gold Coast.

MANLY SEA EAGLES VS NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS

Saturday, 2:00pm, 4 Pines Park, Sydney

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles

1. Tom Trbojevic 2. Christian Tuipulotu 3. Brad Parker 4. Morgan Harper 5. Reuben Garrick 6. Josh Schuster 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Taniela Paseka 9. Lachlan Croker 10. Jake Trbojevic 11. Haumole Olakauโ€™atu 12. Kelma Tuilagi 13. Josh Aloiai

Bench: 14. Kaeo Weekes 15. Ben Trbojevic 16. Ethan Bullemor 17. Sean Keppie

Reserves: 18. Toafofoa Sipley 19. Cooper Johns 20. Ray Vaega 21. Karl Lawton 22. Samuela Fainu

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Tolu Koula is now out for around a month with a knee injury, pushing Morgan Harper ($451.9k – CTW – BE 45) into the side to play his first game of the year. Sean Keppie ($309.7k – 2RF / FRF – BE 10) has been defying his 17 jersey and providing plenty of points (relatively) off the bench and should see a couple more handy price rises given Manly’s forward pack is largely settled.

Lachlan Croker ($574.6k – HOK – BE 108) is back in the side after missing through a shoulder injury last week, splitting time again with Kaeo Weekes ($210k – 5/8 – BE 34) who wins the backup role and moves Lawton to the extendeds.

Newcastle Knights

1. Lachlan Miller 2. Hymel Hunt 3. Dane Gagai 4. Bradman Best 5. Greg Marzhew 6. Tyson Gamble 7. Jackson Hastings 8. Daniel Saifiti 9. Jayden Brailey 10. Leo Thompson 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Lachlan Fitzgibbon 13. Jack Johns

Bench: 14. Phoenix Crossland 15. Jack Hetherington 16. Mathew Croker 17. Brodie Jones

Reserves: 18. Dylan Lucas 19. Enari Tuala 20. Dom Young 21. Simi Sasagi 22. Thomas Cant

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Lachlan Miller ($669.3k – CTW / FLB – BE 0) has flown a little under the radar so far this year, with a low score of 50 a surprising result given how poor the Knights have been up until last week. He’ll push up into the $800k mark in no time at this rate. He’s run the second most of any player (behind Kiraz), broken the most tackles and even took over the goalkicking from Jackson Hastings last week. Incredible stuff.

Greg Marzhew ($581.2k – CTW – BE -2) was massive in his return to the side last round and has continued to keep Dom Young at bay, although at least Young is on the extended reserves after missing it entirely last week. As with any massive score from a winger in a poor side, it’s best to temper expectations a little to see whether the consistency can be maintained, but Marzhew has nudged 60PPG in his career and is now playing outside Gagai who commands plenty of ball in his direction. His 531 owners should explode shortly once other purchases are completed.

Tyson Gamble ($465.3k – HFB / 5/8 – BE 22) is somehow the 3rd highest averaging 5/8 so far this season and 9th for halfbacks.

Leo Thompson ($373k – FRF – BE 23) was a reasonable cheapie last round and remains in the middle given the Knights’ lack of forwards. Jack Johns ($234.8k – 2RF – BE 12) replaces the concussed Kurt Mann at lock. The surprise has been Matt Croker ($319k – FRF – BE -8) getting the most of some added minutes, with an average of 52 from his two games now. He’ll make some decent price rises and could be playing himself into a regular bench role here, but obviously isn’t worth much thought given the price.

ST GEORGE/ILLAWARRA DRAGONS VS THE DOLPHINS

Saturday, 4.30pm, WIN Stadium, Woollongong

St George-Illawarra Dragons

1. Tyrell Sloan 2. Mathew Feagai 3. Moses Suli 4. Zac Lomax 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Jayden Sullivan 7. Ben Hunt 8. Francis Molo 9. Moses Mbye 10. Blake Lawrie 11. Ben Murdoch-Masila 12. Jaydn Suโ€™A 13. Jack Bird

Bench: 14. Jacob Liddle 15. Zane Musgrove 16. Toby Couchman 17. Josh Kerr

Reserves: 18. Michael Molo 19. Tautau Moga 20. Jaiyden Hunt 21. Talatau Amone 22. Jack de Belin

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Jack Bird ($559k – CTW / 2RF – BE 82) was dumped to the bench last week and despite being named again at lock, will soon be completely irrelevant again with the return of Jack de Belin looming. JDB is on the extended reserves for the first time all season. Thought we were onto something interesting for a while there.

Ben Murdoch-Masila ($236.8k – FRF / 2RF – BE 35) almost lost value last week which would have cemented him as one of the worst cheapies of all time. He remains a starter but with constant benchings, there’s little hope for SuperCoaches who still own him outside of hoping he finds the line somehow.

The Dolphins

1. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow 2. Jamayne Isaako 3. Euan Aitken 4. Brenko Lee 5. Jack Bostock 6. Isaiya Katoa 7. Anthony Milford 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Herman Ese’ese 11. Kenny Bromwich 12. Connelly Lemuelu 13. Tom Gilbert

Bench: 14. Jarrod Wallace 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Ray Stone 17. Mason Teague

Reserves: 18. Poasa Faamausili 19. Kurt Donoghoe 20. JJ Collins 21. Kodi Nikorima 22. Robert Jennings

JT’s Teams Analysis:

Connelly Lemuelu ($374.9k – CTW – BE -9) has been an absolute beast so far this seasonc, averaging 67PPG at second row (excluding an HIA-affected game) and should obtain dual positioning in the second row in a few rounds. He remains a starter with Felise Kaufusi out until round 8 through suspension. It was interesting to see Kenny Bromwich initially named at prop last week before shifting back to second row after Kaufusi’s suspension was confirmed. He’ll remain there for now, but does he shift over to prop in a few weeks and leave Lemuelu there? Either way it’s nothing but up at the moment for Lemu owners. Herman Ese’ese ($334.3k – FRF / 2RF – BE 34) is the surprise name to fill in at prop for the time being, playing his first NRL game since last season after recovering from a pec injury. They obviously prefer the older Wallace/Nicholls combination to come in off the bench.

Isaiya Katoa ($258.1k – 5/8 / HFB – BE 6) was close to a start last week but missed the game with an elbow injury. He returns to partner alongside Anthony Milford ($427.4k – 5/8 / HFB – BE 56) where he’ll play halfback (ignore the 7 jersey on Milford’s back, Katoa is a ‘natural halfback’ per his coach) for several months now with O’Sullivan’s unfortunate pec injury. He hasn’t had a massive game thus far but with opportunities now locked in, should be a comfortable hold for coaches who can shuffle him between two positions.

Popular offseason cheapie Jack Bostock ($200.8k – CTW – BE 20) is named to make his debut on the wing in place of Tesi Niu who is out with a knee injury. Niu is slated to return in Round 8, giving Bostock a chance at one price rise at the least if he can remain in the side until then. Somewhat surprising given the more experienced Rob Jennings is still on the extended bench going unused.

BRISBANE BRONCOS VS WESTS TIGERS

Saturday 6:35pm, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

Brisbane Broncos

1. Reece Walsh 2. Jesse Arthars 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Herbie Farnworth 5. Selwyn Cobbo 6. Ezra Mam 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Thomas Flegler 9. Billy Walters 10. Payne Haas 11. Kurt Capewell 12. Jordan Riki 13. Patrick Carrigan

Bench: 14. Cory Paix 15. Keenan Palasia 16. Corey Jensen 17. Martin Taupau

Reserves: 18. Deine Mariner 19. Brendan Piakura 20. Kobe Hetherington 21. Jock Madden 22. Xavier Willison

JT’s Teams Analysis: Another week, another game at ‘home’ and a settled Broncos lineup again. They’ve certainly been short on bad luck so far this year…

Reece Walsh ($656k – FLB – BE 18) soared $100k in value last week and now sits at 33% ownership, just behind Payne Haas ($712.6k – FRF – BE 48) at 38%. There has been some talk about Haas’ output being affected during Ramadan but history has shown he actually improves in output:

Wests Tigers

1. Adam Doueihi 2. Charlie Staines 3. Brent Naden 4. Asu Kepaoa 5. Junior Tupou 6. Brandon Wakeham 7. Luke Brooks 8. Stefano Utoikamanu 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. David Klemmer 11. Isaiah Papaliโ€™i 12. John Bateman 13. Fonua Pole

Bench: 14. Jake Simpkin 15. Alex Twal 16. Justin Matamua 17. Starford Toa

Reserves: 18. Shawn Blore 19. Joe Ofahengaue 20. Tukimihia Simpkins 21. Daine Laurie 22. Alex Seyfarth

JT’s Teams Analysis:

At least for the Tigers, the shuffling around of the spine has eased this week, with the same 1, 6, 7 and 9 as last round a welcome sight for the club who are yet to break through for a win. Brandon Wakeham ($234.8k – HFB / 5/8 – BE -7) will rise in value after this week with another game as a starter. Jake Simpkin ($342k – HOK – BE 71) is back on the bench, pushing Daine Laurie back to the extended reserves. In another odd move, Shawn Blore has been also punted, moving Justin Matamua ($234.8k – 2RF – BE 24) onto the bench for his first game. Still no idea what the go is with Joe Ofahengaue either who played 65 minutes at prop for the Magpies in the NSW Cup last week.

Fonua Pole ($422.1k – 2RF / FRF – BE 23) remains at lock but at an awkward price is not really worth a shot playing sub-55 minutes in the role.

Brent Naden ($414.3k – CTW – BE 13) shifted sides inexplicably last week to play on the right edge and got absolutely no ball. Instead, Asu Kepoaoa ($487.4k – CTW – BE 43) took it all. That looks to be the direction their attack will head this season, so steer clear of anyone out on the right. Actually, just steer clear of anyone in Tigers colours altogether.

John Bateman ($622.8k – 2RF – BE 56) is battling a ‘mystery injury’ but has been named in the meantime.

CRONULLA SHARKS VS NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS

Sunday, 4.05pm, Pointsbet Stadium, Sydney

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

1. William Kennedy 2. Sione Katoa 3. Jesse Ramien 4. Siosifa Talakai 5. Ronaldo Mulitalo 6. Matt Moylan 7. Nicho Hynes 8. Toby Rudolf 9. Blayke Brailey 10. Braden Hamlin-Uele 11. Briton Nikora 12. Teig Wilton 13. Dale Finucane

Bench: 14. Cameron McInnes 15. Royce Hunt 16. Jack Williams 17. Braydon Trindall

Reserves: 18. Connor Tracey 19. Thomas Hazelton 20. Mawene Hiroti 21. Samuel Stonestreet 22. Tuku Hau Tapuha

JT’s Teams Analysis:

No need to bang on any more about Nicho Hynes ($902.6k – HFB – BE 6). He returned last week and simply made everyone else around him better. He gets another chance to do the same here with a relatively settled side. Of the players who had arguably their best games all season last week, Briton Nikora ($729.9k – 2RF – BE 41), Jesse Ramien ($619.3k – CTW – BE 0) and Ronaldo Mulitalo ($634.6k – CTW – BE 25) scored the best. Nikora was an interesting one, as he’d been combining well with Trindall to start the year but went to another level with Hynes back. It should be said that the Warriors look to be a much more formidable defensive unit this year than the Dragons do, managing to hold their opponents to just the two tries per game so far this season. The points shouldn’t leak as much as they did for St George.

Teig Wilton ($544.6k – 2RF – BE 34) continues to chug along, but missed out on the attacking balls last week as they either sailed over his head or just went the other side. Hopefully that’s not a trend here.

Brayden Trindall ($334.2k – HFB – BE -39) missed last week with an ankle injury but will get owners a valuable price rise should he step onto the park this week, named on the bench again where he averaged around 20-25 minutes a game last season.

Warriors

1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 2. Edward Kosi 3. Viliami Vailea 4. Adam Pompey 5. Marcelo Montoya 6. Ronald Volkman 7. Shaun Johnson 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Wayde Egan 10. Bunty Afoa 11. Jackson Ford 12. Marata Niukore 13. Tohu Harris

Bench: 14. Dylan Walker 15. Bayley Sironen 16. Jazz Tevaga 17. Tom Ale

Reserves: 18. Josh Curran 20. Taine Tuaupiki 21.Freddy Lussick 22. Rocco Berry 23. Demitric Sifakula

JT’s Teams Analysis:

In surprising news, Tohu Harris ($636k – 2RF / FRF – BE 95) has been named after leaving the field last week with a knee injury. With such a late game, following the team list news will be very important and will require owners to keep a reserve up their sleeve in case of a late out. Were he to miss the game, Jazz Tevaga ($555.2k – 2RF – BE 36) would be promoted to the starting side. He has been strong on return so far coming off the bench and averaged 60PPG in the 13 jersey last season. . Jackson Ford ($324.8k – 2RF – BE 22) gets another chance at the starting second row jersey and has been hugely impressive so far.

Mitch Barnett ($540.7k – 2RF / FRF – BE 63) remains sidelined with a shoulder injury. His naming next week (presumably when he returns) will be interesting for Ford owners, as there is some risk that he could come back and play on the edge in Ford’s spot, but that seems highly unlikely.

So far, Marata Niukore ($471.5k – 2RF – BE 57) has been benched in each of his games (including for a HIA last week) so looks to be the one to make way for the benchies (or Barnett) given Ford has now played two 80-minute games at second row.

Wayde Egan’s ($591k – HOK – BE 19) return to the side this week after being stood down for concussion protocols last week is a big boost to the Warriors and SuperCoaches. Dylan Walker ($457.4k – CTW / 2RF – BE 25) remains there as a utility should injury strike, and has somehow made money despite being a $450k bench player.

Te Maire Martin will miss the game with concussion, giving Ronald Volkman ($250.4k – HFB – BE 25) a start in the only change to the side this week.

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS VS NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

Sunday, 6:15pm, ANZ Stadium, Sydney

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

1. Hayze Perham 2. Jacob Kiraz 3. Jake Averillo 4. Paul Alamoti 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Matt Burton 7. Kyle Flanagan 8. Max King 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Ryan Sutton 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Jacob Preston 13. Raymond Faitala-Mariner

Bench: 14. Josh Reynolds 15. Corey Waddell 16. Franklin Pele 17. Jayden Okunbor

Reserves: 19. Jackson Topine 20. Kurtis Morrin 21. Karl Oloapu 22. Braidon Burns 23. Kurtis Morrin

JT’s Teams Analysis:

This could be a massive game once again for Jacob Kiraz ($738.2k – CTW – BE 68) who will come up against Brendan Elliott who is a part-timer. It’s the other edge of the field that could be hugely benefited by the Cows injury crisis, with both Nanai and Shibasaki out of the side, leaving Paul Alamoti ($348.8k – CTW – BE -14) to feast on a Cows’ right edge defensive line that has leaked points constantly so far this season and is now even more makeshift. He’ll be a definite play given they’ll definitely be targeting Viliame Kikau ($581.7k – 2RF – BE 73) to open up that side of the field like Fifita did last week. Kikau has been very quiet so far, averaging just 43PPG, so is due for a big one.

Max King ($589.2k – 2RF / FRF – BE 38) has flown under the radar a little so far this season. He has a 3RA of 68PPG and is averaging big minutes with this bench – over an hour per game! Still no sign of Tevita Pangai either, who could eat a bit more into those minutes on his return. A bench that includes both Josh Reynolds and Jayden Okunbor should mean massive stints for all the starting forwards.

Some talk around that Kyle Flanagan’s spot is in jeopardy, with Karl Oloapu ($200.8k – 5/8 – BE 20) featuring on the team lists this year but not breaking past the extended reserves. Is Josh Reynolds’ ($339k – 5/8 / HFB – BE 7) naming in the 14 jersey a sign his chances could be running out? First NRL game for the Dogs since 2017!

Nth Queensland Cowboys

1. Tom Chester 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Valentine Holmes 4. Peta Hiku 5. Brendan Elliott 6. Tom Dearden 7. Chad Townsend 8. Jordan McLean 9. Reece Robson 10. Griffin Neame 11. Coen Hess 12. Heilum Luki 13. Jason Taumalolo

Bench: 14. Jake Granville 15. Mitchell Dunn 16. Jamayne Taunoa-Brown 17. Riley Price

Reserves: 18. Zac Laybutt 19. Taniela Sadrugu 20. Jack Gosiewski 21. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki 22. Ben Hampton

JT’s Teams Analysis:

This is a very makeshift Cowboys side with a host of names now sidelined. There’s completely new defensive groupings this week, with Heilum Luki ($451k – 2RF – BE 77) named to start for the first time this season, Peta Hiku ($524.8k – CTW – BE 99) returning from suspension and Brendan Elliott ($234.8k – CTW – BE 24) playing his first game of the year. Coen Hess ($369.1k – 2RF / FRF 0 BE 36) also remains a starting edge forward with Nanai out for two weeks through suspension. There is minimal cohesion at the moment in the Cowboys’ ability to defend on the edges, conceding a ridiculous 14 linebreaks in the last two games.

On the bench, the return of Mitch Dunn ($372.7k – 2RF – BE 37) from injury should help with the depth issues at second row, and Steve’s son Riley Price ($200.8k – 2RF – BE 20) gets a debut filling in for the injured James Tamou, who could be out a while with a foot injury. Tom Chester ($234.8k – FLB – BE -50) gets his third game here, but with Drinkwater returning next week, will need to find a spot either on the wing or utility to continue making money.

In short, it’s a very disrupted Cowboys side which has the potential to leak plenty of points if the Bulldogs are on. The only SuperCoach upside to that is that Valentine Holmes ($667.5k – CTW – BE 65) has managed to average 62PPG despite the side being pretty below par. Imagine what we’ll be like when we actually turn it around completely…

Justin

North Queenslander born and bred, Justin is also very much a Cowboys tragic. Rumours have it that his first born son will be named Thurston.

Thanks for the weekly analysis champ!

Professor Fate

Mitch Barnett next week interesting for Ford owners ?

Professor Fate

Oh i see you have uodated it, Barnett will be a middle not edge

The Duke

Another great analysis, J.T. More food for thought with former P.O.D. Jack Bird.

jimbojones

Not sure if I should sell Bird this week or next week. High BE and I need him to keep his price (or not drop too much) to afford my desired trades. Looking to move to Marzhew

The Duke

I would politely caution buying a player because of one large score. I already had AKP so I accidentally benefited his big score. You should get a player who has a high average over three or four games.

The Pretender

Marzhew is a little different in that hes a known commodity though, Duke.

The Duke

True but he would rely on attacking stats as a CTW with help from the halves. That game against the hapless Dragons doesn’t prove the halves merit.

Thanks JT – just listening to you guys on the podcast atm – whilst supping on morning coffee and toast. Great stuff mate. Looking forward to watching Manly cream (hopefully!) the Knights at Mudgee, in the heart of beautiful central western NSW (my old stomping ground) – sorry to say, it’s not at 4 Pines like you guys mentioned, but at Willow Glen, down on the Cudgegong river mate! You gotta get down into the Blues heartland at some stage, to complete your RL education! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also warming looking forward to seeing your boy Val go crazy this weekend (or… Read more ยป
