Deanie’s Captains Calls – Round 17

The last bye round of season 2022. Thank God! It’s been tough to navigate through each of the bye rounds.  I am going to suggest some gun captain choices and some worthy POD captain choices this week, with only five games being played across the round.

As Jarome Luai states, Let’s Go!!

VICE-CAPTAINS

Ryan Papenhuyzen
What a game from Ryan last week. His first game back since round 9. He went ballistic late in the game against Manly and just piled on the supercoach points for us owners with a 135-point game. In round six, little pappi went for a below average score of 67 against the Sharks. Would be fair to say Bellyache, blasted his side for effort they showed against Manly. The Storm will be a more focused side in tonight’s game against the Sharks and the mullet man will be full of running here and posting a big score for owners. A clear-cut vice or straight captain choice in the bye round, especially now that pretty boy Nico Hynes is out with Covid.

CAPTAINS

Isaiah Papali’i
IPap was below his best last Saturday night as were the whole Eels team when they got ambushed and outplayed by the Rabbits. Expecting a big bounce back this Saturday night when the Eels come up against the Tigers. Averaging 77ppg so far, he and the Eels will pile on the points against a struggling team in the Tigers.

Alex Johnston
Alex is playing great footy at present and is a major beneficiary of South turning the corner. Scoring plenty of tries in recent weeks and I see nothing changing here on Friday night against the Knights. Could Johnston score five tries this week against Souths? Let’s say he goes for a hattrick tomorrow night. With scores of 114, 114, 31 and 111, Alex is laying down some big scores. I see another 100 point plus game for him. If you don’t own him, probably time to bring him in to your squad.

Editors Note: Keep an eye on the late mail regarding Alex Johnston. He was said to be dealing with a quad issue earlier in the week.

FROM LEFT FIELD

Latrell Mitchell
He is a selection from left field as Latrell is only one percent owned by teams at present. If you are looking for the super POD choice this round, Latrell is the player to name Captain this round. Had a very impressive game for the Bunnies on Saturday night. He put down a score of 99 in his first game since last playing in round 5. He is up against the Tigers and with how the Bunnies played last week against the Eels, expect Latrell to rack up the points in this game. A huge POD this week. Look out!

Corey Oates
Has been scoring tries for fun this season and probably playing some of his best footy of his career. Averaging 59 at CTW which is impressive for any CTW player. Any SuperCoach owner would take this any day of the week. Even with the large injury crisis at the Bronco’s, I still feel the Bronco’s will still get the win on Sunday afternoon at Suncorp. Corey to go over for at least two tries and do plenty of work coming out of his own end. Another POD choice to think about this week.

AVOID

Edrick Lee
An obvious choice to avoid this week is Edrick Lee. I’ll say he will never go close to hitting 172 again in his footballing career. An absolute anomaly last Friday night where he scored five tries against the Titans. He’ll be lucky to score even one try this week against the Bunnies. For the 77 odd players that had him in their side, good on you, cash in for the next couple of weeks then sell him off. Cannot believe 1213 SuperCoaches have traded him in this week. Surely, you can buy better players than Edrick. Stay well clear this week.

Deanie’s Bold Selection

Again no luck with our multi last week. I am going horribly I know but we will keep on going on and hope we hit one sooner rather than later. This week we will do a anytime tryscorer. Pappi, Johnston, Sivo and Oates to score anytime. Comes in at $8.76. Give it strength.

Some interesting games this week to watch and more importantly game 3 of State of Origin next Wednesday night. I’ll be present next Wednesday night at Suncorp and cannot wait for it. Hopefully everyone’s captain scores well and good luck. Enjoy your footy!

DeaniesBeanies

Another North Queenslander, LayK's roots lie in Townsville but unlike the Cows recently, is charging up the (SuperCoach) ladder.
