Deanie’s Captains Calls – Round 16
We are back after a week off due to international representative footy and State of Origin. Us Queenslanders hated the score line on Sunday night, but NSW came to play and put the sword through us. Cannot wait for Origin 3 in two weeks time.
Looking ahead to this week’s games. The game of the round would have to be the Qld Derby, where the Cowboys play the Bronco’s at Qld Country Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It will be a cracking game, 3rd v 5th. I am sure JT will be making the trip to Townsville to watch the game. Enjoy it mate.
Let’s get into the captaincy selections for round 16.

VICE-CAPTAINS
It’s a strange round as far as Captains and subsequently, Vice Captains go. We’ve got the Origin and other rep hangovers to navigate as well as the fact that there are no clear matchup differentials to target. Guys like Cleary (below) could be targeted as they play early in the round, or take a punt on someone like Harry Grant, Reuben Garrick or Haumole Olakau’atu.

CAPTAINS
Nathan Cleary
Had an absolute blinder in SOG game 2 and even with a match up against the Roosters, he will be dominate for owners this Friday night at BlueBet Stadium. Unsure why 37 players would trade Cleary out this week. Just bizarre. With an average score of 87ppg and a three-round average of 89ppg, let’s be honest just picks himself most rounds. Riding high after a big Sunday night in Perth, confidence is high and Cleary lights it up. Stand out captain choice this round.
Joseph Tapine
Tapine has been going gang busters for owners in recent times and he is a legitimate captain choice for owners this round. Averaging in his past three rounds 85ppg, can easily post a score in the high 80s and 90s. Canberra are playing good footy in patches. Joseph is leading from the front and his other players are following him. One of the inform forwards in our game right now. A shout out for putting the “C’’ on this week.
Other notable mentions to name as a possible captain choice would be Joey Manu, Nicho Hynes, Dylan Brown.

FROM LEFT FIELD
Shaun Lane
His last several weeks have been quite good with scores of 82, 91, 59 and 98. Lane has been seeing ball come his way and I expect no different here against an awful Bunnies outfit. Souths were terrible against the Dragons two weeks ago letting in 32 points in a half of footy. Even with Latrell Mitchell, he’ll be a shell of himself and won’t lift the Rabbits to any great heights in this game. Yes, I could have said Brown, Moses, Papali’I but you have to go against the grain at times and he is one player not many would suggest to name as a POD captain choice this round.
David Fifita
Going to go out on a limb here as I think he’s a possible chance of starting on Friday night. If he doesn’t start, then the D-Train will be coming off the bench and will try and tear it up. Fifita will want to make a huge impact on this game and try to put himself in the frame for SOG 3. I wouldn’t be surprised that he just terrorises the Knights players when they are all tired late in both halves. He’s a smoky of going large very quickly in this game. Only currently owned by 7,611 teams. All of these teams will be hoping Dave scores well. Note, has posted a 147 against the knights in 2021.
A big watch on little Pappi in tonight’s game against the Sea Eagles. Currently 11% owned. A three-round average of 112 and averaging 96ppg. As an owner, I hope he has a big game.

GONE COLD
James Tedesco
Teddy has been below par in the last few rounds scoring 50 and 57 respectively. He and his Roosters are facing the premiers in the second game on Friday night. He only averages 62ppg against the Panthers. Happy to stick clear and Teddy is an avoid this round.
Deanie’s Bold Selection
Not having any luck with our multi bets. Cleary, I have been stinking it up. I will go to the well again and see if I can jag one before seasons end.
This week, we will have a same game multi in the Panthers v Roosters match. To’o anytime, Suaalii anytime and Panthers 13+ = $7.50 with Sportsbet.
Round 16 has some cracking games of football. I cannot wait to sit down and watch most of these games over the weekend. Best of luck to one of my best mate’s, who’s flying into the GC to run the half marathon on Saturday morning. Laingy, I will see you Saturday and we will be crushing some cans soon. Choose your captain wisely this round. Enjoy the footy everyone.
hey can anyone tell me where to check the percentage breakdown of captain selections for the round? Just looking for a pod captain this week.
SuperCoach Gold > Coaches Choice
Cheers. I think I will take Jahrome Hughes at 1.3% captaincy. The Melbourne game and the Cowboys game look like the only two which wont be wet.
hynes?
I’ve gone Cleary VC and Hynes C for this week, hopefully it pays
