Deanie’s Captains Calls – Round 13
Welcome to our first bye round for season 2022. Our captaincy options will be limited this round, so the article will be structured a little differently. For the bye rounds, I will just put a number of players up for debate that I feel are a shout out for putting the “C” on this week. Most of us will be struggling to field a side let’s be honest. Let’s hope we get through and survive the round and don’t see too many red arrows come Monday lunchtime. Let’s get into it.

CAPTAINS
A.J. Brimson
AJ has missed out on Origin selection, so expect to see a big game by him. His last couple of rounds have been good especially against the Broncos last week where he laid down 72 points. It would be fair to say he hasn’t made Origin as his form is a bit down and the Titans are going woeful. With a three round average of 68 PPG, the Titans need AJ to produce his A game at Cbus and provide Supercoach owners with a big score. Owned by 1% of teams, he is more of a pod captaincy option than some of the guys below.
Scott Drinkwater
Drinkwater has been off in the last few weeks posting scores of 46, 57 and last week a 12. Before that had scores of 102, 113 and 74. Thursday night at Cbus stadium, he’ll be primed for a big game for the Cowboys. Expect Drinkie to be more involved and active against the Titans. The game will be a tight one and Drinkie will be a standout on Thursday night.
Dylan Edwards
Might be following last weeks points with nominating Edwards as a captaincy choice but with the big name players for Penrith on Origin duty, I just see Dylan stepping up and having a big game for Penrith at BlueBet stadium on Friday night. Edwards posted his highest score of the season last week of 100 against an inform Cowboys side and averaging 61 PPG for the season so far. Just seeing him being more a general, being a lot more involved in attack and scoring a couple of tries. Only 4% of teams currently own him, a definite pod captaincy choice for round 13.
Haumole Olakau’atu
Teams with Garrick will look at Garrick as a captain choice but do not forget about Olakau’atu this round against the Warriors. Stepped it up last week after a few disappointing scores of 55 and 45. This Saturday night, Haumole will go for a 80 plus game against a Warriors side who are just not a good football side. Expect Manly to get the job done here and holy guacamole leads from the front.
Joseph Manu
Will be a highly selected captain choice this bye round. The Roosters first half of football last Saturday night was the best 40 mins of football they have played all season. Manu is averaging 66.5 PPG and has a three-round average of 70.3 PPG. Manu at fullback; he’s one clear captaincy choice for coaches this week.
Angus Crichton
The other only Roosters player to consider as a captain choice this round is Angus Crichton. He’s missed origin selection and no doubt will be the most traded player into teams for round 13. Averaging 57.5 PPG, a five-round average of 68.8 PPG and hitting his highest score so far this season with an 84, Angus comes right into contention as a captain choice for the 11k of owners. A solid captain choice if you do not have Joseph Manu in your team.
No bold selections this week. I got a $1.23 shot rolled last Saturday. I just want to mention on Sunday George Kambosos Jnr takes on Devin Haney in a world title lightweight unification fight in Melbourne. This will be a great fight to watch. I will be heading to a pub on Sunday to watch this fight. Go George and go the Maroons!
Dean, only question would be with most teams not fielding a full squad, what would you take for a VC loop this week?
My thoughts are I’d lock in a double score if I can get 75+ out of my vice captain.
I am with you Sal, 70+ in a bye round is magical !
Yep, i’m hitting up Tago for the VC this week
Bulldogs right side defence has been rubbish all year…May Tago or Kiks could all go large for a VC shout
I am thinking of VC on Garrick (upside potential) and C on Manu (I think he’s a safe as houses 75+ at FLB in this game).
Actually I just saw the weather forecast for GIO Stadium on Sunday, sheesh. Not good, not good at all. 4 pines forecast looking sunny with light winds only for the Manly clash (good for kicking).
But to your question, I will be locking in anything 75+ – free loophole with no AE can’t go wrong (well yes you can but not as badly).
Canberra at home in the rain in single digits? I gotta stick with Panthers, but which one? Edwards is probably the safest.
